Campos Brothers Freed After Acquittal in Ranch Robbery

Gilberto Liberato and Jose Campos were freed after a New Mexico ranch robbery acquittal and a lack of follow up on a possible manslaughter charge against one brother. San Francisco officials said no further questioning. The case included a tavern knife slaying linked to Angelo Demoro. Jury selection for the April term opens with kidnaping and rape cases first on the docket. The ranch robbery at Pastura involved about $56,000.

Roswell Swears In New City Council And Mayor

The new Roswell city administration will take over at 7 30 p m in City Hall with Bert Ballard becoming mayor and a slate of new aldermen led by Max Shepherd and Winston Daniel. The prior council will transfer power and be replaced by the Greater Roswell ticket sweeping all posts including police judge.

Nab Two Brothers In Station Break-in

Police captured two brothers aged 20 and 16 after a break in at Harding Service Station 200 N Kentucky Ave. Owner Raymond Harding reported 116.18 missing. 97 recovered from a money bag buried six inches underground. Leslie Dean Sanders, 20, and his 16 year old brother were arrested for breaking and entering and grand larceny.

Woman Suffers Bump On Head In Wreck

Two ambulance runs occurred within 15 minutes in the afternoon. Nellie Ford suffered a head bump from a two car collision at East Second and 200 block and was taken to St Marys Hospital. Earlier, Sam Perkowski of Carlsbad, with his wife and son, reportedly had a stroke and was also taken to St Marys Hospital.

County Oil and Gas Lease Ruled Valid

Dist. Judge Robert Fox ruled that a July 6 1943 oil and gas lease issued by the State Land Commissioner is lawful and valid for 480 acres in Chaves County. The case questioned the lease issued without competitive bids as acreage was placed into a restricted area, with Barney Cockburn and J. C. Watson Drilling Co. as lessees.
