What The State Legislature Did Before It Quit
In New Mexico the Fifteenth Legislative Assembly adjourned sine die after a chaotic session. A motion to reconsider Senate Bill 89 to set teacher pay at 900 dollars a year failed. Marie Tom Neal of the Legislative Bureau was fired by both houses but without an emergency clause, granting ninety days before action. The merit system was discarded, and the primary system’s fate remained unresolved. A revised utility bill left municipalities largely out, and Spanish instruction was legalized in schools.

Mysterious 25 1/2 inch metal image found near Pecos River
A discolored 25 1/2 inch metal image of a robed figure with a basket and water bag was unearthed near Carlsbad spring after the flood. Found by Tom Earn est and another man, it came into W. H. Woodman of Roswell’s possession and may have been stolen from Mexico amid church looting. Woodman plans to display it briefly at Boellner's Jewelry Store.

Women Fight In Alley Sparks Hospital and Jail

Small House Gutted By Fire Here Sunday
A 3 room house at 910 North Union was gutted by an unknown origin fire Sunday morning. Firefighters laid 550 feet of hose to extinguish the blaze. No damage estimate yet. The home belonged to John Woodard and the Stevens Brooks family occupied it. Insurance covered the house, not the contents.
