Planes collide in flight near Moffett Field killing 16
A NASA Convair 990 and a Navy P3 Orion collided while approaching Moffett Field and exploded on a Sunnyvale golf course. Sixteen men died and one survivor, a Navy technician, was hospitalized in critical condition. Fire responders described a scene of black smoke and debris over a 100 yard area as investigators opened a board of inquiry.

Artesia man jailed for assault in Bogle stabbing
Ramon Cruz, 20, was jailed in Eddy County to face an assault charge connected to the Monday stabbing of state police Sgt. Jim Bogle during a picket at a city warehouse. The warrant, issued by District Judge D. D. Archer, lists assault with intent to commit a violent felony.
