In Dublin on April 13 a peace conference opened at 2:30 pm with leaders Arthur Griffith Michael Collins and Eamon de Valera among the attendees. The meeting drew large crowds outside the building as the public eyed an uneasy truce amid fears of renewed rebellion in the Free State.
London April 13 Sir Ross Smith the famed British aviator was killed when the world flight plane crashed at Brooklands. Lieutenant J W Bennett, to have accompanied him, also died. The aircraft had just been prepared for the trial after a half hour test by a Vickers pilot.
Railroads report February earnings to the Interstate Commerce Commission show a national profit of 47,762,600 dollars against a 5,176,867 dollar deficit in February 1921. The figures indicate a strong rebound in U S rail profitability and a return to better financial health across lines.
Captain Edward L Earl testifies before the senate labor committee that General Gregory Seminoff's troops gouged out the eyes and cut out the tongue of a YMCA worker who refused to provide cigarettes. The incident is alleged to have occurred under Seminoff's command.
San Francisco April 13 Fatty Arbuckle was acquitted by a jury in district court after a brief deliberation of six minutes The trial was the third for a murder charge linked to the death of motion picture actress Virginia Rappe
The board of county commissioners will meet Saturday morning to name a successor to Probate Judge J T Evans who has resigned. Evans plans to leave Sunday for Los Angeles to join his wife and make a new home. He has been a prominent local figure in probate work and service in the territorial days and state legislature. He will be missed.

In Charleston South Carolina an explosion at port terminals shattered windows miles away. Reports say a shipment of condemned war munitions including TNT exploded. At least four were killed and two were missing as the building housing the munitions collapsed and nearby structures were badly damaged.
In Palestine Texas April 12 East Texas gains notoriety for large families Ike Clews a Black man from Alder Branch near here is believed to have the biggest family in the state He is father to thirty three and has been married three times He has three sons named John one from each wife He owns 640 acres and has shared land with many of his children though without deeds He recently signed an oil lease requiring sixteen signatures
Oklahoma City April 13 Carl Williams president of the American Cotton Growers Exchange says the 1922 national cotton acreage will increase over 1921 but not reach normal. He cites late season and fertilizer shortages causing a late start for growers.
Dallas April 13. Ben W. Tye prominent Atlanta attorney will be tried at the May term of federal court on the charge of using the mails in connection with the Burk-Tye Oil company organization in 1919, federal agents announced.

The Third District meeting of the New Mexico Federation of Women’s clubs will be held in Carlsbad on Tuesday April 25 for an all day session. Credentials convene at 9 a.m. with the program including reports, a 10:30 a.m. business session, lunch at 12:30, and an afternoon session featuring state president Mrs. Frank W. Parker and discussions on Americanization, sanitation, and demonstrations. A reception for delegates arrives April 24, and local clubs offer overnight entertainment. Roswell and Shakespeare clubs hold voting rights. several named officers and chairmen are listed. A Friday April 21 play at Berwinda school and a W.O.W. beauty contest on April 14 are noted.

Genoa Italy April 18. George Tchitcherin declared the Allied plan to reduce Russia to Turkey's level and said Russia would oppose the experts' scheme. He asked for twenty four hours to prepare a formal reply at the sub divisions conference assisting European rehabilitation.
A dense bloc of party notices announces candidacies for County Clerk Treasurer Assessor Commissioner Sheriff School Superintendent Probate Judge and other posts in Chaves County. Several individuals pledge to run subject to Democratic primaries or convention, with signatures from local lawyers officers and party members.
Washington April 13. Cotton, excluding linters, consumed in March 1922 totaled 5,180,450 bales, up from 4,208,218 bales in March 1921, according to the Census Bureau.
In Park Hill Denver a juvenile municipality operates with a boys and girls council of 18 members each plus a boy s marshal and a girl s marshal. The students draft ordinances enforce them, violators are arrested and brought before a court, and punishments are served.

George Hornsby, held in Travis county jail for safe keeping, has been moved from the county jail to Belton where he will be hanged tomorrow for the 1920 murder of J. N. Weatherby of Brownwood. The case was transferred on change of venue.
An Overland driven by Carl B. Kiefer overturned yesterday afternoon four and one half miles north of Tinnie. W. H. Kelley, who rode with Kiefer, was seriously injured. They were returning from Arabela when the vehicle rolled down a canyon after the dirt failed on a hill. Both men were trapped under the car and brought to the city last night. Kelley’s injuries were described as serious and the extent remained undetermined this morning at St Mary’s hospital.
J E McDonald arrived this afternoon from his Phoenix Arizona home and will spend several days in town on business.
