Ford aid plan okay doubted

Two area men die in underground pipe accident
Dexter electrician John Raymond Swarengin, 37, and Hagerman farmer Jackson Wiggins were trapped in a field pipe east of Hagerman after a water main broke. Swarengin had gone to remove a motor and awoke his helper to call utility workers. Wiggins entered to help. Medical examiner Fred Swiney said cause pending, with police suggesting sewer gas may have incapacitated them. Fire crews from Hagerman and Dexter and Roswell divers recovered the bodies after pumping out sewer water.

Grand jury may finish work soon in Chaves County
A source close to the Chaves County Grand Jury expects most work to be completed by early next week as investigations proceed at a good rate. Judge Snead instructed the panel to first probe allegations against the district attorney while witnesses including city officials and law enforcement officials have been observed near the jury room.
