Spanish American gang members jailed in Deming case

Five 18 year old defendants were jailed for 60 days each in Deming after a rock throwing incident that damaged a Chevrolet. Witnesses, photos, and police testimony from the morning hearing detailed the event in the 500 block of East Deming on March 27.

Scenic By Pass Route Completed Says Council

City council learned the scenic four mile by pass road from North Main to West Second is graveled and finished with city engineering help. The project, once kept quiet until a week in progress, ties to the truck by pass plan and was discussed at a recent session with Highway Commission member Tom Mann indicating support for state road improvements.

Voters Endorse 400000 School Bond Issue Here

Roswell voters overwhelmingly backed a 400000 elementary school bond with 225 in favor and six opposed out of 231 ballots cast at 202 Junior High. Supt. J D Shinkle said an official canvass would be made by the school board, likely Friday.

State Finance Board Orders Open Advertisement of County Bonds

The State Finance Board told officials to advertise bond issues in Albuquerque and Chaves County. Albuquerque school district bonds amount to 800,000 and Chaves County hospital bonds to 1,200,000. The board set bids at 2.34 percent on ten-year notes and required open market advertising. It also outlined bids for San Juan County on multiple issues and Las Cruces Union High School bonds.

Yesterday a fire at Acme Wood Milling Co in Albuquerque destroyed about 150000 board feet of lumber and damaged stored cabinets doors screens and windows. Loss is around 20000 with cause undetermined.

Officials Inspect Wildcat Oil Well Near Roswell

Republic Natural Gas Co. executives arrived from Dallas to inspect a new wildcat oil well 30 miles east of Roswell on the J. P. White ranch. The well, drilled by Republic and Seaboard Gas and Oil, shows a restricted flow of 294 barrels per day at 550 pounds taking pressure with a 1/4 inch choke. Location is 660 feet from the west line and 1,986 feet from the north line of Section 34, Township 11, South Range 29 East.

Renewal of bus service eyed for Roswell city

City Manager C M Woodbury told Roswell council of a prospective three route bus line led by Mr Farrell of Santa Fe. Petitions from 37 North Main residents and Military Heights callers supported service as officials formed a committee to pursue the deal.

A quintet of street sectors was added to the city paving program following petitions. The council approved Cherry from Orchard to Garden, Edgewood from Cherry to Peach, Orange from Edgewood to Orchard, Mor iris and Purdy. 153 blocks now scheduled for paving.
