An early morning attempt to rob the Pioneer Limited between Tomah and Oakdale, Wisconsin failed after Conductor Sumway drove off two masked men with a lantern. The train slowed, shots were fired, and the robbers fled, possibly toward Camp Douglas. A later report says they took a gold watch and a diamond ring worth 450 dollars from the conductor, but confirmation is uncertain.

Prairie Fire Rages Near Plateau in Western Texas
Fire broke out on the range near Plateau yesterday afternoon. Cowboys and sectionmen from Alamo Van Horn Wild Horse and Boracho rushed to the scene by freight trains and fought the flames until night. The pasture age on thirty section was destroyed and the Evans ranch, recently stocked with 500 cattle plus 500 more en route, suffered the heaviest loss.
