President Carter reviews economic and political sanctions against Iran after Khomeini refuses to hand over the seized U.S. hostages. He met with national security advisers for two hours and plans further consultations before a formal announcement. Trade has largely halted with Iran.
Israeli troops stormed a kibbutz dormitory on the Lebanon border to free hostages seized by Palestinian guerrillas. Five attackers were killed and 11 soldiers wounded. three Israelis died including a baby, and four children plus another adult injured. The Iraqi backed Front claimed responsibility.

Tehran Radio quoted the leader praising the militants and noting hostage health and welfare, with discussions continuing at the government level.
Jury selection starts in the District Court retrial of Donald G. Stephens. Stephens was convicted in 1978 for the Sept 2 1977 murder and armed robbery of George Daley, whose body was found Dec 28 1977 near the Pecos River after a lengthy search, with Judge Paul Snead presiding.
A Bartlesville Oklahoma minister recalls a snowbound group of 17 church members finding lodging in Beaver county jail. Sheriff Alan Shook offered the facility and the group accepted. The Rev Thomas Church called the jail nice and cozy and praised its cleanliness and operation.
