Viet Cong Threatens to Execute American in Saigon

Hanoi radio quoted the Viet Cong front vowing to execute Gustav C. Hertz of Leesburg Virginia if Saigon authorities execute a Viet Cong suspect in the U S Embassy bombing. The defense-linked threat targets an American civilian and ties to supposed spying while noting an unrelated Viet Cong leader’s arrest in Da Nang.

Great Victory Claimed in Mekong Delta Battle

South Vietnamese and U.S. forces report a major victory in the Mekong delta south of Saigon. They say 309 Viet Cong fighters killed or captured, with 16 government soldiers and 6 Americans dead in a three day clash near Vinh Loc. Roswell Council Approves 275000 Bond for Water System

VA Inquiry Group Given More Time

A Senate veterans affairs subcommittee approved continuing all Federal veterans hospitals and offices through June 30. The action keeps facilities open while a White House appointed commission reviews the closure order and merger plan affecting 11 hospitals and four soldiers homes. The group also backed raising the VA bed ceiling from 225 000 to 130 000 to accommodate new hospitals.

First KC 135 Refueling Tanker Arrives at Walker AFB

The first KC 135 Strato-Tanker of the 310th Air Refueling Squadron from Schilling AFB Kansas will arrive at Walker AFB at 10 05 a m Saturday. Col J B Smith will pilot the tanker with Brig Gen William C Baker attending. Roswell officials plus Chamber of Commerce and New Mexico Military Institute drum corps greet the arrival as the 310th transfers here due to Schilling AFB closure. The unit, about 140 officers and 700 enlisted, will move in by May end replacing the deactivated 579th Strategic Missile Squadron after Atlas complexes were abandoned.

Dog ordinances to be enforced in Roswell streets

Mayor Gaf Harris announced on Tuesday that city animal ordinances would be enforced to the hilt. Roswell pound keepers took in many stray animals last week as a concentrated effort to clear the streets proceeds. Owners of pets are urged to comply with the ordinances.

Roswell Council approves garbage rate hike to 2.25
