The Institute team secured its first win of the season in an opening game aloft. Players showed strong offense led by key scorers while the opponent struggled to find rhythm. The victory marks a promising start for a program aiming to build consistency across early fixtures.
Roswell defeats the New Mexico Military Institute 3 to 2 in an opening baseball game at Amusement Park. Ed Johnson and Nichols sparked Roswell with early hits, Chinn fueled late rallies, while Captain Hester struck out ten for the cadets.
Canyon City visits the Institute for a three game series starting Monday at 3 pm with an earlier 2 pm start for the Monday game. St John Roswell’s right fielder sprained his ankle on the bases Friday and Paul Bird replaced him.
Norfolk, April 6. Due to shortfall in pledged entertainment funds several big national conventions may be moved or canceled in the Jamestown exposition period. Among those at risk are the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the National Travelers Protective Association meetings.

Seven persons—five whites and two colored—died when a tornado swept through Laverne Alabama yesterday. Separate report notes a fire at Grandview Sanitarium in South Windham Connecticut with one inmate killed and others evacuated. The escapee patients were moved by police with no further injuries reported.

Reid & Hervey with the same counsel represent the plaintiffs.
George W. Cazier and Mrs. Cazier become landlord and landlady of the Schlitz hotel in Carlsbad. They take charge next week after purchasing from Pauba and LoJer. The Casier duo are Roswell veterans, long-time Pecos Valley residents, with two years of Shelby Hotel management and strong local ties.
Bill Wolf is asked to call on G. M. Slaughter, chairman of the executive committee, at the American National Bank regarding the cowboy ball during the cattlemen's convention. Anyone knowing Bill's whereabouts should report to the same place.
D L Myers Pecos Valley Lines traffic manager informs the railroad committee of the cattlemen's convention that a rate of one fare and a half has been set for round trips from points down the valley to Roswell during the convention. If feasible, special excursion trains may operate on those dates.
