Man Given Probation After Bigamy Conviction

Merle C. May was sentenced to two years probation after a Roswell District Court hearing. Assistant District Attorney Jay F. Rosenthal argued a man with two wives is punished, while May claimed jail time already served was enough. May had married Cynthia Jane Outridge on December 2, 1977 while still married to Jackie Lyn May.

Hopefuls File For Office In Chaves County Primary

Chaves County residents filed to run in the June 6 primary with 18 candidates by noon. Democrats and Republicans listed multiple candidates for magistrate, county commissioner, sheriff, county clerk, probate judge, assessor, treasurer, and state representatives. Secretary of State staff noted windows were full and more filings were expected.
