At a Sunday morning and evening service at the Methodist Church Roswell citizens voiced support for a high license proposal. Local pastors and lay speakers argued the measure would curb saloons, reduce temptations, and be preferable to no regulation.
Washington reports the new Panama Canal Commission members led by Theodore P. Shantz with salaries set. Taft announces salaries: seven thousand five hundred dollars for each member plus travel, chairman gets twenty two thousand five hundred, chief engineer seventeen thousand five hundred, canal zone governor ten thousand. Also notes Roosevelt’s Washington to San Antonio trip for Rough Riders reunion and hunts, with travel plans and communications by courier. A separate report covers grand jury indictments against Corbett Machen and Lorenz for conspiracy in mail pouch strap purchases. Lorenz not named in current indictment.
Charles Long, a Taylor-Moore Construction worker, was seriously injured Saturday at the Hondo reservoir when a steam loader rolled while signaled forward. He suffered a crushed body and a broken collar bone, and was brought to Roswell for care at a boarding house, resting today.
E. O. Creighton of Dexter was severely injured after a steer charged a hack wheel, jamming him against the wheel. He may require an operation as doctors assess his condition and treatment options.

A V Goodin, longtime local, sold his livery business at Capitan and plans a similar enterprise at Estancia in Torrance county. He will open the stable at once and operate rigs from Estancia to Albuquerque.
Weather boosts church attendance at Catholic Chapel as services ran full. A freight train struck a streetcar at a crossing in Louisville on April 3 injuring Sister Mary Anthony, Sister Mary Leander, and Katherine McGill, all teachers en route to school.
Company B will meet at the regular place tonight for drill.
In a Sunday night ceremony at eight o'clock, Mr. Harry A. McFarland and Mrs. May Steward were married in Walton's Studio office. The event was noted as a high class portraiture setting for the nuptials.
A Zeigler Illinois mine blast reportedly killed about thirty workers with two rescued. Messages from Zeigler and Springfield indicate no confirmed totals or details yet. The Adjutant General’s office notes troops unlikely unless a plot is found behind the explosion.
County Commissioners met to plan repairs on the east leg of Second street after hearing a citizens committee. The Commercial Club joined a delegation requesting action, and the board approved a $500 allocation with the club to help. A petition from over 600 taxpayers and a Dex tro bridge inquiry were also considered with favorable investigation. Hagerman was represented in the delegation.
London reports the Prince of Wales was operated on today at Marlborough House. Officials withheld the procedure's nature, asserting nothing serious was involved. The prince also attended church and visited an artist's studio yesterday.
