Boss of the Year named at Roswell Jaycees banquet

Richard Goree was installed as Roswell Jaycees president at a Saturday night banquet at Roswell Inn. Joe F. Key won Outstanding Boss of the Year for his contributions to the Roswell community and Jaycees. Other officers and directors were installed. Paul Herring and Karen Goree earned top Jaycee awards.

New Mexico Democrats reject amnesty plank at platform convention

The New Mexico Democratic platform convention in Albuquerque rejected a proposed amnesty for Vietnam war draft evaders, ending the session early after a decisive adjournment vote. A floor amendment for unconditional amnesty was also defeated, as were other resolutions on gun controls and removing George Wallace from the party.

Wallace Nixon deal speculated by McGovern aide

Pierre Salinger claimed Wallace might back Nixon, undermining the Democrats. He said he would be stunned if Wallace supported the Democratic candidate and predicted Wallace would try to damage the party or leave the convention to back Nixon. Humphrey was viewed as front runner at the time.

Salinger press secretary to the late Kennedy spoke at New Mexico Democrats platform convention backing McGovern and predicting a Truman like coalition. Salinger eyed top three in Wisconsin and named Massachusetts and wins in Wisconsin Ohio and Pennsylvania as key contests.

First Easter Color Photo Marks Roswell Record Milestone

The Roswell Daily Record prints its first full color local photograph on Easter Sunday. The image shows First Baptist Church Youth Choir before a large Trinity stained glass window. Color separations were produced in house by Mary Price and printed for the 32 page Urbanite offset press.

Two Children Injured In City Bicycle Crash In Roswell

Mark Anderson 12 and Ruth Ann Mein 11 on bicycles were struck by a car at Bonney and South Main Streets. Anderson remained in critical condition at St Marys Hospital Friday into Saturday. Mein received less severe injuries and was treated. Driver not identified pending report.
