The Rossburn Lions Club sponsors a free Hunter and Firearm Safety Training Course at Rossburn Collegiate on Saturday October 4 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Open to all 13 and older, with certificates and a Manitoba Crest for satisfactory completion. Registration available at Rossburn Schools and local businesses.
The Rossburn and District Recreation Commission met Sept 22 in the council chambers. Members discussed the July girls program, approving $55 to each participant and $10 for transportation, and explored local support for a future figure skating program. A public notice of minutes was agreed, and plans included hockey outreach and a Hunters Safety Clinic on Oct 4.
It is with deep regret that we report the passing of Mr. Ed Harris, long time resident of Rossburn at the age of 85. He died in Brandon General Hospital at 7 am on Sept 22 1969. Funeral arrangements are with the local Royal Canadian Legion branch and cremation is requested unknown until a later date.
The Rossburn ladies golf outing at Rossman Lake golf course was dampened by weekend weather and re scheduled for this Sunday. A welcome is extended to all ladies with details in advance notice.
At a Rossburn Recreation Commission meeting plans were laid to form a Hockey Association uniting all ages from six to senior. A meeting is set for Monday Oct 6 at 8:00 p.m. at Rossburn Elementary School to organize the group and boost local leagues to cut travel for youth. The commission urges broad community participation to ensure the sport’s survival and growth.
A Saturday evening shower at Town Hall honored Miss Janis Bereza, bride elect for October 25. Guests from Hamiota, Brandon, Virden, Sask, and other towns attended. ninety five ladies signed the guest book as Janis expressed thanks in English and Ukrainian.
Nomination day is set for Wednesday October 1 in the Rural Municipality of Rossburn with openings for Councillors in Wards 1 and 3, Reeve, and for two Village of Rossburn Councillors plus the Mayor. The Pelly Trail School Division invites nominations for trustees in Wards One, Three, Five, Seven and Nine.
K Machin and Associates of Winnipeg have been engaged by the Waywayseecappo band of Indians to seek economic opportunities and improve their status. Several meetings have occurred on the Reserve with Indian Affairs staff, and while preliminary suggestions are not yet ready, several improvement areas have been identified.
A violent thunderstorm Sunday morning paused harvest operations and disrupted farm work. The report notes camp weather prevailed and compares to last year’s conditions with a high of 73 and a low of 3 percent.
The Rossburn and District Recreation Commission plans a community survey to learn residents recreational wishes. A survey form invites citizens to share desires to help plan winter activities and foster fellowship and friendly competition among neighbors.
A list of possible activities invites residents to vote 1 2 3 for top picks and add new ideas. Square dancing begun last year will continue this year. Interested individuals should contact Earle Taylor or any Commission member with questions.
