Ford Courier Truck Tender Awarded by Rossburn Lions Club

Four tenders were received for the 1975 Ford Courier Truck. The winning bid of $3025.00 was submitted by W. D. Fisher of Inglis Manitoba. Funds will be used for Arena renovations per the 1975 76 Rossburn Elementary School Grade 8 class instructions.

Parkland Area Sees Eleven Golf Courses Visited

Mr and Mrs Bob Pritchard and Mr and Mrs Otto Elvers completed a summer programme by playing all eleven Parkland area courses. They visited Rossburn Russell Binsearth Sandy Lake Winnipegosis Gilbert Plains Roblin Swan River Clear Lake Elk Horn Ranch and Dauphin and also played on courses outside Parkland.

Consignment Sale Postponed to Late October

Fowl Supper and Grand Opening in Oakburn

A Ukrainian Women's League fundraiser Fowl Supper is set for Sunday October 3 from 5 to 7 PM at Oakburn parish hall. The Pioneer Club plans a Grand Opening Monday October 4 1976 at 2 PM in their Main Street building with guest speakers. Everyone welcome.

Mrs John Barnesky returned from Brandon General Hospital after surgery.

Cooler Weather With Rare Precipitation Observed

The region saw cool dry weather persisting through Tuesday evening and into the equinox period with no significant rainfall. A bright lightning display occurred early Saturday morning but produced little rain, marking a notably dry harvest period. Last year’s peak and trough reached 74 and 33 degrees respectively.

Grand Reopening At Macleods In Rossburn

A four day grand reopening at Macleods in Rossburn drew large crowds with CKDM Dauphin broadcasting live. Draw prizes included a lamp, camera, anti freeze, electric hand mixer, ironing board, electric drill and a recliner chair won by local residents. tickets were drawn by small children.

First Radio Shop Opens In Rossburn Forty Years Ago

In September 1936 Jim Andrew opened Rossburn’s first radio shop in two rooms of the blacksmith shop. Rent was $2 monthly and town lights cost $1. batteries powered early radios. Andrew and Harry Brugman installed initial wiring in the town hall under construction. By 1937 they operated licensed ham radio gear. Jim remains active in radio and TV service in the Rossburn area.

Rossburn Council Agrees on PR 254 Route Retention

The Rural Municipality of Rossburn held a regular meeting September 13 1976 with Reeve John Mitchell and councillors in attendance. Motions waived minutes reading and acknowledged highways minister Peter Burtniak’s decision to keep the current PR 254 route with redesign in place. The assembly also noted a $9366 Manitoba Lotteries grant for Rossman Lake Youth Camp and directed actions on ambulance accounts drainage and upcoming district meetings. Representatives discussed transportation drainage beaver damming, fire equipment tenders, Grundy Lake drainage losses, and lagoon expansion with cross jurisdictional funding.
