Accidental Deaths Fever 1950 Toll Near 1949 Level

The 1950 accidental death toll totals 198 year to date, just below 211 in 1949, per W. Trevor Davies director of safety. General accidents fall from 94 to 64, while industrial up 4, home up 7 to 77, and traffic up 6 to 42. The general category includes 25 drownings and 19 infant deaths from choking at home.

Elections Loom For Rossburn Villages Board And Council

Nomination Day approaches for Rossburn Village council and Rossburn School Board along with the Rural Municipality council. Two village councillors J I Huston and O R Hodge face term expiry with Hodge not seeking re election. School board terms include J I Huston and N Sicinski. RM council terms John Plante Ward 2 and Mike Baubie Ward 4 end this year. If needed, elections will be held ten days after Nomination Day on Friday October 20.

Francis G Winspear of Edmonton was chosen president of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce at the organization's annual Banff meeting. A noted Western Canada business leader, he previously led the Edmonton Chamber of Commerce and taught at the University of Alberta, with deep involvement in Canadian public affairs.

First Carload Of Grain Shipped From Rossburn

The first carload of grain reported shipped from this district this fall was delivered to the Manitoba Pool Elevators at Rossburn by Mr. Sam Chichiluk. The grain was shipped September. It weighed forty nine pounds per bushel and graded O.A.C. 21 six row malting barley.

Several Dwellings Erected During Year

In Rossburn several new dwelling houses were built this year though fewer new business places appeared. New homes rise on the north end and near the creamery with a growing block along King Street. A Greek Orthodox Church is under construction opposite the fair grounds. Industry moves include mill property changes and a new Memorial Sports Arena underway east of Mountain Road on Victoria.

Manitoba Butter Dominates Canadian National Exhibition Show

Manitoba creameries swept all creamery butter special prizes at the Canadian National Exhibition. They won 61 percent of first prizes and 52.7 percent of all prizes. Canada Packers Ltd Manitou earned the silver trophy for highest scoring butter and the silver medal for highest scoring 1 lb prints. Maple Leaf Creamery Lundar took two silver medals for highest scoring butter in June and in July or August and won special prizes for best finished box. Belmont Creamery Belmont received a prize for best finished print butter. Other Manitoba winners included Manitoba Dairy and Poultry Co op Elkhorn Canada Packers Rapid City Morden Creamery Ashern Farmers’ Creamery and Notre Dame de Lourdes.
