The Manitoba Telephone System will introduce automatic dial service in Strathelair and Elphinstone on Thursday September 22. Elphinstone dial goes live at 9:00 am and Strathelair at 1:00 pm with a ceremony at each site. The exchanges will serve about 500 customers currently on manual service.
Local and general notices report numerous visitors over the long week end. Families from Regina Winnipeg Edmonton Boissevain and Saskatoon visited relatives and friends. Congratulations to Lesia Chopp and Jack Peet on their marriage.
Vista News notes Mr and Mrs N Morris and Noland spent the weekend in Winnipeg. Several Winnipeg, Brandon, and Saskatoon visitors stayed with local families including the Hamiltons Kerrs Mackedenski and Belinskys. Halifax plans are mentioned as Murphy family leaves for N S. to make their home.

Mrs Viola Peden formerly Menzies died August 30 1966 at Winnipeg General Hospital after a lengthy illness. Funeral at Westminster United Church Shoal Lake with Rev Angus Mc Coll officiating. Interment Shoal Lake Cemetery. Survived by daughter Sandra Calgary sister Thelma Penticton brother George Shoal Lake granddaughter and other relatives. Donations to local memorial funds.
Centennial Committee seeks lake name submissions for the Centennial Project at Fishing Lake. A $10 prize from The Chalet in Rossburn will reward the best name with a short explanation. Submit entries to Centennial Secretary Otto Elverson by September 30, 1966.
Mr W Hrysak and Mr L Hry sak motored to Brandon Sunday and visited Mrs W Hry sak in the General Hospital where she is treated for a fractured hip. Duncan Miller left Monday for Winnipeg to take a two year course at MLT in Industrial Arts.
Rossburn establishes a Village Recreation Commission by By-Law 384 approved last March. Members include C. G. Erickson as Chairman and Earl Moffat as Secretary. The group plans swimming, camping, golf, curling, track and field, hockey, drama, and other activities with support from provincial resources and trained leadership. Citizens are invited to attend meetings or request appointments to discuss recreation initiatives.
The Jackpot Bingos sponsored by the Ukrainian Catholic Church Building Fund Committee will resume Wednesday evening September 21 at 8 00 p m The jackpot will be 190 00 matching the pre holiday amount for the weekly game sponsored by the church group and held at the parish hall.
