Former missionary Ada Brooks to speak at Rossburn United Church

Ada Brooks, United Church missionary on retirement furlough, will speak at Rossburn United Church on Monday November 7 at 7 30 P M. Born in Grenfell Saskatchewan she worked as stenographer in real estate insurance and grain business then as accountant with Wartime Prices and Trade Board and Canadian National Institute for the Blind later an insurance officer with Unemployment Insurance Commission Her Zambia assignments included bookkeeper duties at UCZ Lusaka headquarters bursar at Kafue Boys Secondary School and labour dispute liaison before returning on retirement furlough now back for a second term and ready to share experiences.

Purple fuel and farm truck licenses not under review

Winnipeg Transportation Minister Sam Uskiw stated that regulation of purple fuel and farm-use truck licensing is not part of the Task Force on trucking regulation review. He denied reports of proposed licensing cost increases and said the Task Force is gathering views, with no recommendations yet and a report due next year.

Pelly Trail School Board Discusses Rural Student Transport

The Pelly Trail School Board met October 11 with all trustees present. They agreed the rural child may attend Oakburn School with parents responsible for transport to Route No 6A8, and arrangements for bus QA8 to pick up in the David Drul yard to Oakburn.

Rossburn Review Wins Award In Competition

The Rossburn Review earned third place Certificate of Merit in the 1982 Manitoba Community Newspapers Association contest. Results were announced at the association’s semi annual meeting in Russell on Friday October 21.

Two Accidents Cause Extensive Damage on Highway 16

Shoal Lake RCMP report two separate motor vehicle accidents on Highway 16 last week with extensive vehicle damage but no serious injuries. Terry Dutchak, 29, of Rossburn, suffered facial cuts and rib injuries in a single vehicle crash near Selsgirth on Friday at 3:00 AM. he reported it at 9:00 AM and the investigation continues. A two vehicle crash at the Highway 254 and Highway 16 junction Saturday at 1:50 PM involved a Donnie Kokoradz pickup pulling a discer and Roy Casley driving a Kenworth tanker. both vehicles were badly damaged with no injuries. The investigation continues.

Manitoba Sets Clock Back One Hour This October

Manitoba clocks move back one hour in the early morning of Sunday October 30 as standard time returns. Under the Official Time Act of 1967 uniform daylight saving time runs six months from the last Sunday in April and ends the last Sunday in October. The reversion occurs at 3:00 A.M. October 30 when clocks go back to 2:00 A.M.
