Large Turn-out Af Polls on Friday

Voters turned out in large numbers in municipal and village contests for councillors. Ward One elected Morley Brown defeating incumbent Wm J Hamilton. Ward Three saw Sam Trakalo retain his seat in the only close race. Village voters chose Peter Wladyka and Harry Aylwin for a first term, while John Ryszytyl was defeated. Trakalo led in votes with 122 to Pawluk 112. Village totals showed Wladyka 176 and Rylwin 172. Ryszytylo 82. Overall, turnout exceeded prior years, signaling strong democracy in Rossburn.

Rinko Committee Issues Statement Rossburn Report

The local Rinko committee releases a final financial report detailing income and expenses. Special thanks go to J. D. Andrew for his services. A. C. Smith attended a Poultry Short Course at Brandon on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Leboe speaks on Social Credit at Russell meeting

B R Leboe M P for Cariboo addressed a Social Credit gathering at the Russell legion hall on Thursday October 20. Forty five attended as Leboe outlined Social Credit aims, anti graft stance, and policy on monetary reform, stressing Christian principles and voter responsibility. He warned against government promises and outlined monetization of assets to boost purchasing power without tax increases. The report notes continued discussion on national unemployment and pensioner support with emphasis on fiscal policy. (continued on page six)

Former Local Merchant Dies in Winnipeg Saturday

E. Malik Peikoff aged 58 died Saturday October 22 at St. Boniface Hospital after a long illness. Funeral services were held Sunday at Shaarey Zedek Synagogue with burial in Shaarey Zedek cemetery. A longtime hometown merchant, he operated a store in the Co op premises around 1917 to 1919 and later ran a Birdtail shop before taking over his father’s store now run by W. Perchaluk. He moved to Winnipeg in 1950, living at 99 Kenaston Boulevard. Survived by wife Rose, four daughters, one son, four brothers, and four sisters.

Rink Committee Plans Fowl Bago For Rink Fund

ROSSBURN The LRA met in the Municipal Offices with excellent attendance and reviewed the rink's financial success. Members favored holding the annual two day Fowl Bago on November 15 and 19 to aid working capital for the winter season and discussed rink improvements and a possible amateur play directed by W. Lovett.

Remarkable 74 Degree Afternoon Sets Front Page Tone

A Wednesday afternoon temperature of 74 degrees drew front page notice amid a season of record highs. The unusually mild day, near November, was described as nearly unbeatable and unlikely to be surpassed.

Successful Tag Day For Blind In Rossburn District

The Rossburn District tag day raised 52.48 in a cold day effort. Afternoon house to house canvassing brought in 24.73 by students Lois McKnight Christina Barnesky Carole Stewart Olvia Werbowski Jean Andrew Dorothy Murphy. Evening tagging by the ladies added 27.75 and organizers credit all who helped for a worthy cause.

Surprise Party for Ben Carmack Celebrated

A surprise party honored Ben Carmack on his birthday Thursday October 20. About 40 friends and Forresters Lodge members visited him during the afternoon and evening. Len Selby spoke for the C O F and presented a sweater and a box of chocolates. He received many gifts and a delicious lunch was served.
