Beaded Head Band Presented at Credit Union Day

Credit Union Day observed in Rossburn with about 50 members and friends from Sandy Lake Oakburn Lizard Point and Rossburn. Guest speaker Leo Corcoran of CUNA discussed self help through Credit Unions and world impact funded by member dues. A beaded headband and fob were presented to him by Lizzie Odie. M.,T.S. To Present $100 Annual Bursary

The Manitoba Teachers Society local of the Pelly Trail School Division agreed at the Convention to present a $100 bursary to a Grade XII student in the division who will attend Teachers College. A committee to administer the bursary will be appointed by the high school principals.

Funeral Rites Monday For F Zimmerman

Frank Zimmerman 79 died at Winnipeg General Hospital on Thursday October 19. Funeral held Monday October 23 at 10 a m from St Theresa Roman Catholic Church with Rev J Mendyka officiating. Burial in Roman Catholic Cemetery. Survived by wife Mary four sons John Mike Joe Paul and four daughters Nellie Cora Jean Helen two grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Rae's Funeral Home was in charge.

Clarence Lazaruk Presented With Local Scholarship

The Rossburn Scholarship Fund awarded Clarence Lazaruk a $50 cheque toward a $100 scholarship for the 1960 61 Grade XI high school class. The presentation happened at a dance in Rossburn Town Hall hosted by the Student Council with donations from local organizations funding the fund.

Sports Committee Nominates Campaign Manager

The meeting named Gene Kaban as campaign manager while electing Councillor Stefanuk Chersky Mel Kaban Mary Twerdochlik and student reps Alice Magdaniuk Robert Stupinsky Carol Barlow Garth Major Katharine Armstrong Sheldon Brown Lesia Chopp for grades IX X XI and XH respectively.

Rossburn High Initiation Dance Draws Crowd

Sheldon Brown was appointed to oversee transportation for sports in neighboring towns. Rossburn High School held Initiation on October 20 with freshies parading Main Street. Majorettes Hill Billy band and three stooges entertained spectators. A mock wedding for two freshies was staged. About $50 was realized.

Rossburn Village Council October Meeting Recap

The Village of Rossburn council met October 17 1961 in the council chambers. Present were Mayor J G Stitt and councillors Wladyka Aylwin Antonin and Drosdoski. They read approved minutes and financial and constables reports and approved grants to the Salvation Army and St John Ambulance. The council discussed Manitoba Hydro pole removal and requested immediate approval from Manitoba Telephone System. Bills totaling 1300 19 were passed. Next meeting set for November 21 1961 at 8 p m.

The Rossburn Lions Club hosted a supper in the Rossburn Hotel Dining Room with a business session. They discussed playground land sites, CNIB Tag Day, a second annual Fowl Bingo in early November, birthday party invitations from Erickson and Neepawa clubs, and a November 17 birthday event at the Town Hall. George Fismen of Moorhead will visit November 28.
