Shingoose couple welcome a daughter born October 22. Gratitude extended to Miss Cormack and Mr. M Glushka for jams and chicken. Polio Clinic scheduled for early December with second and third needles. only one clinic planned.
At Ottawa Manitoba's delegate Mr J G Stitt president of Manitoba Postmasters Assoc represents Manitoba at the Postmasters Convention in Ottawa.
Brandon Manitoba The Children’s Aid Society of Western Manitoba will launch its annual campaign in 37 rural municipalities on October 2 to raise $10,000. The drive supports family and children services including counseling, foster care, clothing, and home stability. In 1956-57 over 1,950 children received help through foster and adoption programs and family support.
The Hospital Aid met at Mrs. J. Smith’s home on Monday October 21 with 7 members and 1 visitor. Isabel Huston presided and due to insufficient help no dinner was served at the Poo Banquet. A Bingo night was set for October 30 with each member donating a prize.
Vista W I held its October meeting at Mrs Hugh Armstrong home. Members attended and Mrs MacPhail spoke on the Winnipeg Convention though she could not attend in person. General business followed with the next gathering set for November 14 at Mrs Balmer Rogers home.
Caroline Lillian Collins daughter of John and Mrs Collins Rossburn married David Glenn Stewart son of the late James Stewart Grandview Man officiated by Rev T Ferguson. Bridesmaid Lore Storey Grandview wore pink nylon net gown with mums carried. groom attended by brother Jack Dauphin. Out of town guests include Bannister families Winnipeg and Rivers and many Storey and Collins relations from Grandview and Brandon.
Edward Shust won a two year term as reeve of the R M of Rossburn defeating Alex Cleland by 160 votes. Shust carried 61 percent of the vote, winning every ward except Ward Two where Cleland led by just under 100 votes.
The Teachers' Convention of Mr Funk's Inspectoral Division No 4 met at Oakburn October 10 and 11 with 114 teachers registered. G W Brisbin and Professor Harris spoke on education and adjustment, while local officials welcomed attendees. In Silver Creek, R Nield was re-elected as Reeve over N Derkach by about 58 votes on a 57 percent return.
J Sawaryn was defeated by A E Kalyniak for Ward 5 councillor in the R M of Silver Creek by 88 to 58 last Friday. Oakburn School pupils directed by Mrs O Yarish and Mrs M Maliation and by O Lebedynski performed with high school musical numbers at the banquet. The Ukrainian parish and Ladies Association served meals at the convention with Mrs A Pateman of Hamiota named president for next year. Vice President for 1958 59 is Mr C Tibbets of Birtle with Miss M Kenny of Birtle Indian School as secretary.
Walter Chuba former Oakburn resident died near Stonewall after disappearing on Sept 16 and found Oct 13 in his car. Born April 14 1925 he was 32. Funeral Oct 16 at Oakburn Funeral Home with burial in Wisla Roman Catholic cemetery. Survivors include wife Mary Wozny and several siblings. pallbearers listed.
The Brandon Chamber of Commerce convention opens November 6 with an education focused agenda. Feature speaker Rev Dr W C Lockhart from United College Winnipeg will discuss Education's Future is Today's Challenge at the November 8 luncheon. A symposium on Meeting the Crises in Education features Dr M F E Lazerte, Nan Murphy, and E L Arnett, moderated by M J G McMullen. Seventeen resolutions on education will be debated for a brief to the Royal Commission.
Town warns residents of October thirty first Initiation Day at Rossburn High School. Freshies will be dressed for penalties and paraded along town streets ending with a Hallowe en style party. A Freshie Queen will crown a king. next week a full write up and king queen details promised.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Aylwin with Sandra and Dwight visited Tuesday with Mr. and Mrs. Frank Morris at Erickson. Miss Evangeline Karmazenuk enjoys a week at her parents Mr. and Mrs. N Karmazenuk.
The Review received two reports of banded ducks being shot in the district. Delmer McFeeters fired one Saturday about 24 miles south of Rossburn. Matt Sidlar shot another a week ago Tuesday at Stewart's Lake.
