The Rossburn Village Council met on Tuesday evening October 19 with the mayor and all councillors present. Minutes, constable report, and financial statement were approved. A wattage increase for Festoor lighting, seven building applications, three Old Age assistance approvals, two poultry and livestock applications, and a tax sale date set for December 14 were noted before adjournment.
The Rossburn Hospital Aid held a tea Saturday evening at the Town Hall and cleared twenty two dollars.
In October 1949 local notices detail Betty Emerson and Bernard Miller wedding at Hamiota Gospel Chapel, and Marjorie Macklin marrying Wilton Brown at Gilbert Plains. Isbister Scholarship awarded to Murray Tanasichuk after second year medical studies. Oakburn hosts Kowal twenty fifth anniversary. Manuliak farewell at Leech district farm. Other notes include births, fair attendance, and military transfers across Vista Mears Oakburn Angusville.
F O Norman Bishop of Brockville Ontario visited J G Stitt home last week. Mrs Coughlan has been a patient in the local hospital and friends wish her a speedy recovery. Patsy McFarlane and Harry Middlemass visited Mr and Mrs F Hodgkinson at Swan River over the weekend. Mr and Mrs C A Menzies visited last week with friends in southern Manitoba.
First Prize of 20 dollars awarded to staff of the telephone office for the best kept interior in District No 4. Congratulations girls.
Hunter Mr John Hersak fired on his farm and shot a banded duck. The bird bore band number 515-57344 and was sent to the American Wildlife Association in Washington DC for verification.
Mrs. S Maydaniuk visits Winnipeg for a medical check up. Mr. Pat Carville relieves at the lumber yard while Mr. Lind is on holiday. Mrs. J G Stitt Del and Donald spent the week end at Fork River. They were joined home by Mrs. A Rowe who will stay awhile at the Stitt home.
Friday evening the Stamp Club at Rossburn held an informal public meeting. Officers were elected for the year and members exchanged stamps from China and Hungary. Notable attendees included Mr. Smith Miss Laycock Mr. Aylwin and Mr. Hresavich.
Friday will be election day with ballots cast in Wards 2 and 4 of the rural municipality. In Ward 4 Mike Baubie and J. nistransky compete for the seat, while Ward 2 features John McKietiuk and William Hyra. Voters urged to turn out and vote.
Last week at the home of Mr and Mrs H Hamilton visitors included Mr and Mrs Stanley Lazaruk and family from Pine Falls and Mr and Mrs J Rutherford and family from Minnedosa. Margaret Miller and Helen traveled to Winnipeg while Norman Strong also went to Winnipeg. Eleven children attended the Children Band on Friday. Cam Halliday serves as delegate to the United Grain Growers Convention with Mike Belinsky as alternate. A W A Tea and Bazaar is set for Saturday October 23 in the town hall.
The 24th and 31st events at Rossburn include services at 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. with 11:00 a.m. in between on the 81st, followed by an annual meeting. Rey and J. F. Cieply of o.m.i. are noted in the record.
Valley Jubilee section reports the Glen Elmo Junior Red Cross meeting on October 15 1954 electing Helen Walko president Evangeline Strilecky vice president Irene Strilecky secretary Irene Piasta treasurer and others. A bingo night October 29 supports the Junior Red Cross and Cancer Research.
The School Hillites discuss Sadie Hawkins plans for November 8 at 8 o clock and organize a bowling league starting October 18 after four. Seven teams of five with entry fee forty cents aim at prizes for top and lowest scorers. Inspector Labossiere visited October 15 to advise on school problems.
