The report notes a very unfavorable weather and late harvest with only fifteen to twenty percent of grain harvested. Some farmers are over halfway done while many threshing crews have little progress. Rain delays and badly frozen crops depress prices, yielding about 85 cents per bushel after costs, with high wage expenses. Earlier hopes for an exceptionally good crop proved disappointing.
Three people Mr. Lloyd Bell Miss Lillian Vermeulen of Erickson and Mrs. Lawrence Bell of Brandon were discharged from Rossburn Hospital after a truck overturned near Rossburn on Saturday. Several others were seriously injured at the same site. residents urged the government to place heavy white posts along the road to prevent vehicles from sliding into a deep ditch.
Mrs Dmytro Trakalo died peacefully in Rossburn Hospital at 84 years five months. Funeral at Greek Catholic Church on Oct 10 with Father E Olinyk officiating. Survived by five children twenty two grandchildren and one great grandchild. husband predeceased in 1947.
Harris Huston suffered a painful accident Monday evening when his hands were caught in a V belt on a self propelled combine. He received 15 to 20 stitches on his right hand while his left hand had several cuts, the little finger being the worst. He was discharged from Rossburn Hospital the next day. Best wishes are extended for his speedy recovery.
George Belinski, 67, a Vista district farmer, died waiting for a train at Vista CNR Station en route to Winnipeg. Born in Western Ukraine, he came to Canada in 1903 and left a large family including six sons and six daughters. Funeral Monday at the Greek Orthodox Church east of Vista with Sandy Lake Orthodox Choir.
Rev. Wm. G. Onions of Toronto will serve as supply minister for several months at St Marys United Church. He preached his first sermon during the Thanksgiving service on Sunday. Choir director Harold Jeal led the anthem selections. The St Marys Journal.
Impaired visibility from frosted windshields blamed for a large share of the 443 railway crossing accidents reported to the Board of Transport Commissioners for Canada for the year ending June 30. The text urges motorists to slow down, keep windows clear, avoid racing trains, and use second gear if necessary to prevent stalling with trains possibly following.
Rev J Y Garrett led a service at Rossburn United Church for Harold Collingridge born October 10 1872 in Essex England and died on his 78th birthday October 10 1950. Survivors include wife Mary and five children plus twenty grandchildren. interment at Rossburn Cemetery.
Dunc McIntyre shot a banded duck last week bearing the number 644026. The band directed to notify Wildlife Service in Washington DC, and McIntyre has already notified officials and awaits details on where and when the bird was banded.
Voters on October 20 face four candidates for two Rossburn Village Council seats and three for two School Board vacancies. Incumbents Huston and Sicinski seek re election alongside new contenders Verbowski and Varmey. Ward 2 councillor Plant faces Hyra in a tight race, last decided by three votes in 1948.
Pat found a few small halibut off Manhattan Beach and enjoyed fishing. Mr and Mrs Walsh traveled from Rossburn visiting Winnipeg Minneapolis Chicago Los Angeles Vancouver Edmonton Sperling and friends along the way. They returned October 9 after a trip through USA and Canada with grape fruit and figs collected in California.
