Rossburn Review marks tenth anniversary and progress

The Rossburn Review celebrates ten years since its first edition on October 9 1941. Publisher H J Bowley led the paper until retirement in 1948 when O R Hodge took over. The paper notes upgraded Rossburn printing facilities and a 71 percent circulation increase over three years.

Savings Bonds Spark Manitobans Interest in Canada Series

Manitoba residents anticipate a record Canada Savings Bonds purchase in the sixth annual series, on sale Oct 15. Bonds mature 10 years 9 months from issue with 3.2 percent yield, up from 2.4 percent. Denominations range from 50 to 5000, and ownership limits are 1000 to 5000.

Village Social Notes From Winnipeg to Rossburn

Miss Valetta Hamilton of Winnipeg spent the weekend with her parents Mr and Mrs W J Hamilton. Clare Peden and family visited at the M D Hamilton home. Viola Hamilton of Shoal Lake visited two days at her home. The Browns of Birtle visited Alex Brown's parents. Mrs D McIntyre of Russell visited Mrs M D Hamilton. Mrs N Strong and baby Gordon Wesley returned home from hospital. Mrs C Williams is a patient in Rossburn hospital. Sympathies to Mrs Hamilton and Mr A Woods on the loss of a brother. Raily Day Service featured a youth dialogue with five participants and a good attendance.

Well Known Rossburn Citizen Buried Here Friday

William Jasper Strong died Tuesday in St. Boniface Hospital after a month long illness and was buried Friday in Rossburn Cemetery. The funeral was led by Pastor W B Eaton at 2 p m. He served on the Village Council and as mayor and was a cattle trader and butcher. He is survived by wife Ethel Jane Chesney, son Emerson, daughter Pearl Bell and six grandchildren with two sisters and two brothers also listed.

Rossburn Election Nods Run For Local Office

Saturday October 20 marks election day in Rossburn with multiple acclaims and nominations. Gordon Taylor seeks Reeve two year term. S P Ukrainetz nominated for Reeve. W J Hamilton elected Councillor Ward 1 by acclamation. Zegalski not seeking reelection. Ward 3 sees Sam Trakalo and Mike Borowski as councillor candidates with Chopp having withdrawn. Mayor Earl Moffat re elected by acclamation. Wm Antonichuk and Pete Wladyka also acclaimed. three school trustee seats filled by acclaim with Annie McIntosh, Mike Smyeniuk and A E Varmey named as trustees.

Ladies honor Miss Ollie Gudmundson at prewedding party

A large gathering of women hosted a week long event for Miss Ollie Gudmundson a bride on October 11. Mrs J Von Hagen helped present gifts as "Here Comes The Bride" rang out. Ollie thanked friends as confetti balloons burst and guests sang "For She's A Jolly Good Fellow" before a lunch refreshments.

Bride-Elect Kay Yanick Honored At Oakburn Shower

Miss Kay Yanick bride-elect was guest of honor at a Ukrainian National Home Hall shower in Oakburn on October 11. Gifts were presented by sisters Anne and Mary with wagon-drawn wrapping and a social evening of games ended by lunch. Nearby visitors included Dolores Halladay from Winnipeg and families from Carman and Minnedosa.

Farmers must register for Coarse Grain vote in specified districts

Farmers entitled to vote on the Coarse Grain Question must register with the district registrar. Registration runs October 16 to 22 with revisions on November 10, 12 and 13.
