Election Day set for Rossburn village and Ward 4

Next Friday October 24 1952 is Election Day in Rossburn village and Ward 4 of the RM of Rossburn. Polls run 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Rossburn Town Hall Fred Stebeleski residence poll 1 and Marco Hall poll 2. Two retiring trustees re elected by acclamation. village council contest has four candidates vying for two seats with listed nominations and proposer names. Ward 2 and Ward 4 races noted with incumbents and challengers.

Transatlantic Phone Call Connects Harold Alston

On Tuesday afternoon October 14 Harold Alston United Church minister at Rossburn Canada telephoned his wife in Bosham Sussex England. The call traveled about 5000 miles with clear reception from Rossburn at 420 pm to England at 1020 pm. The charge for the 5000 mile call was 9 dollars.

Legion To Conduct Memorial Service On Armistice Day

Rossburn Branch No 40 B E S L plans an Armistice Day memorial service in Rossburn Town Hall at about 10 30 a m on November 11th with a banquet and dance to follow at 6 30 p m. Veterans and next of kin are invited and banquet tickets are on sale.

Funeral Thursday for Solsgirth Pioneer William Workman

The Solsgirth community bids farewell to William Workman who died Tuesday at his home. A funeral will be held Thursday at 2 30 p m at Solsgirth Anglican Church with interment in Birtle Cemetery. He was 75 years old.

Work has started on digging the footing for the waiting room at Memorial skating rink and building the chimney by the curling club. Any amount of voluntary help is welcome as the bulk of this work must be paid for if left to others. Don’t wait for an invitation. appear with a shovel.

Curling Club Opens Season Plans and Bonspiel Rules

Rossburn Curling Club members met October 6 to outline season plans. They will flood rink when weather allows and appoint a caretaker. Open bonspiel limited to club members. open rink rules allow women on men’s rinks for regular play. Proceeds go to skating rink committee. $100 donated for a chimney. Fees set at $10.09 per person with $1 extra per nonrock-owning family.

Funeral rites for Mrs Sophia Charney held in Rossburn

Mrs Sophia Charney died at Brandon General Hospital on Sunday. The funeral was conducted at the Rossburn Ukrainian Catholic Church by Rev Fr Basil Charney and Rev Fr Olynek in early October 1952. Interment followed at the Ukrainian Catholic cemetery north of Rossburn. She was born in Western Ukraine in 1859 and married in 1881. Survivors include five sons Matt John Steve Basil and Mike and a daughter Annie Ewanyshyn along with 23 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

Winnipeg Men Net Reward for Tagged Duck

John Ermet and W. J. Bottle hunted at Wm Mitchell's farm last week and shot a banded duck. The left leg tag shows F. Wildlife Service Washington DC No 53748516 and the right leg tag shows Illinois National Historic Survey No 3516 offering a $2 reward for return of the tag.

Review buys back last issue for five cents

Last week's Review issue dated October 8th will be bought back for five cents by the publisher and resold to readers still desiring extra copies. The note explains extra copies are normally printed weekly and that the fire news was especially hot for those away from home.
