Election in Wards Two and Four Nominates Seven School Trustees

Nominations on nomination day set contests in Rossburn RM wards two and four with seven candidates for six trustee seats. Ward two sees Councillor Wm Hyra opposed by Mike Tanasychuk while Ward four presents Fred Posmituck and Joseph Sitko as rivals to retiring Councillor Mike Baubie. Rossburn village sees acclamations for Councillor Mike Anton and Harry Drosdoski. School board lists seven nominees for six vacancies: Earle Taylor Dave Maxwell Douglas Andrew Lorne McMillan George Lawless Eugene Caldwell Casey Genevey.

The October Rossburn W A meeting at United Church Annex opened with hymn 388. Ethel Langridge led a devotional and poetry verse answered roll call. Reports given, poems read, correspondence read, and $10 contributions sent to Osborne Home Neepawa and Senior Citizens Home Pilot Mound. Committee appointed for Pool and Vets banquet. An electric organ plug planned in church. Bazaar articles made from remnants. Hostess prize to Mrs Lindsay. President Mrs Viola Stitt closed with prayer. Lunch by Mrs G Taylor Mrs A Cleland and Mrs H Alexander.

Annie Topolniski 93 passes in Edmonton

Annie Topolniski, 93, died Sept. 27 in Edmonton. She came with her large family from West Uk Traine to Rossburn around 1900 and lived through decades with eight sons and one daughter.

Monthly WMS Meeting in Annex Leaders In Charge

The WMS held its monthly meeting in the annex on Tuesday evening with President Mrs. R Alexander presiding and Secretary Mrs. B Williamson assisting. The agenda included worship hymn Scripture minutes roll call and a discussion titled What Is This Total Mission read by Mrs Lindsayf. The meeting closed with a prayer by Mrs A McIntosh.

Good Turnout At Ratepayers Meeting

A large crowd gathered at the Rossburn Town Hall for a ratepayers meeting chaired by the village council. Mayor J. G. Stitt spoke for the council, with updates from E. Moffat on Rossburn Hospital, R. Hutton of Rossburn Consolidated School Board, and H. Huston of the Pelly Trail School Division. Discussion covered several items and questions, urging residents to actively nominate school board candidates, while most attendees praised the elected officials for delivering services within budget.

Bingo by Greek Orthodox Church on Wednesday October 26 at 8 PM in Town Hall Basement admission 75 cents for 20 games. Ressburn Rural Council Meeting Minutes October 11 1960

The Ressburn Rural Municipality council met in the council chambers on October 11. Reeve M J Sotas and Councillors Morley Brown William Hyra Mike Pawluk and Mike Baubie attended. The minutes were read and confirmed. The financial report for September 1960 was adopted. A 10.00 grant was approved to the St John Ambulance annual appeal fund. A rate of five cents per hour was set for plugging patrols during winter snowplowing. Snow plowing for Park Wardens was set at 10.00 per hour. Frank Zegalski was appointed arbitrator for the land transfer petition from Braddock No 2136 to Oakburn No 255. The Court of Revision date was set for October 28 1960 at 10:00. Last month’s total expenses were 13395.55. The next meeting was adjourned to November 8 1960 at 1:00 PM.

Former Winnipeg resident praised for organizing joint surgeons meeting

The Journal of the International College of Surgeons notes Dr. Samuel S. Peikoff of Winnipeg led the effort for the Canada United States Joint Meeting to be held in Winnipeg on Sept 28 29 1960. The Vista W A regular meeting met at Mrs W J Hamilton house on Wednesday Oct 5 with 5 members and 6 visitors. Devotional by Mrs MacPhail focused on Thanksgiving and Psalm 103. Bazaar and tea planned for Oct 22 with quilt for sale and usual bazaar items. Lunch served by the hostess. Next meeting at Mrs M Miller home. all visitors welcome.

Funeral Rites For Stanley Shypowsky

Stanley Shypowsky of Menzie Manitoba died after an 11 day illness at Shoal Lake Hospital. Born 1906 in the Olha district he worked as a labourer and carpenter serving miles around. Prayers were held Sunday night and Monday before a Ukrainian Catholic Church service at Oakburn. Burial followed at the local cemetery. Raginski Funeral Home handled arrangements. Pallbearers included Nick Werzak Shoal Lake Tony Chwaluk Menzie Mike Polos Menzie Tony Raginski Oakburn Fred Werzak Vista Shoal Lake. He leaves his mother in Wynyard Saskatchewan a brother Joe Ninette and a sister Dora Zazulak Grandview with three step siblings. Deepest sympathy is extended.
