Pelly Trail School Board Discusses Paraprofessionals and Honors Staff
The Pelly Trail Division Board met on Monday Sept 27 at 8 00 p m with all trustees present A delegation from the Manitoba Teachers Society led by John Collins John Carley and Wayne Hollier questioned Bill 71 allowing paraprofessionals in classrooms for limited periods The board indicated its position favors using paraprofessionals to assist teachers not replace them Wayne Hollier was granted a one week leave for a NATO sponsored European history tour The board approved $100 recovery aid for Zone X of the Manitoba Secondary School Athletic Association and noted a rescheduled graduation from Oct 23 to Oct 30 The regional Brandon Midwest Conference meeting is Oct 3 4 with several trustees attending The next board meeting is Oct 12 at 8 00 p m The meeting adjourned at 11 30 p m

Rossburn Women's Institute gathers for October meeting
Rossburn Women's Institute met in the Annex on Tuesday October 5 at 2 30 pm. The session opened with O Canada and the Creed. Mrs Williamson read of the first W L in Manitoba placed in Morris. Mrs Cleland spoke on fish farming in Manitoba. District President Mrs Nowosad will visit Birdtail and Rossburn for a special combined meeting on October 21, with another date to be set if Birdtail cannot attend. Letters from Cancer and Care Relief were read. A jackpot donated by Mrs McIntosh was won by Mrs Agnes Taylor. Next jackpot planned by Mrs Walter Armstrong. Mrs McIntosh gave the board report and Mrs Pritchard screened films from London. Lunch was served by Mrs Agnes Taylor and Mrs Georgina Cleland.

Hospital Auxiliary Plan Fall Bazaar
The Rossburn Hospital Auxiliary resumed its 1971 72 season on September 28 in the Hospital Board Room with eleven members present. The treasurer reported a $509.07 balance. An invitation from Russell Hospital Auxiliary to attend October 7 was accepted. A bazaar was proposed, a travelling basket suggested, and new hospital furniture arrived. The jackpot donated by Jessie Caldwell was won by Helen Aylwin. Next meeting at Anne Slow’s home with Halloween costumes or a 50 cent fine. meeting adjourned by Vi McKietiuk.

Lightning flashed in the early hours of Thursday as an October thunder shower rolled through. Rain remained light, allowing farmers to resume harvest operations after recent heavy rainfall.
Community classes begin October with adult education offerings
ELPHINSTONE Bishop Sewing Levels 1 and II start Mondays at the Collegiate with a $5 fee, and Level II/III patterns are for adults. Typing Levels I and II run Wednesdays for eight weeks starting October 27 at $4, with Mrs. Sandra Shtykalo handling inquiries. An Adult Recreation Evening Thursdays invites out-of-school adults for badminton volleyball shuffleboard and ping pong. Senior citizens are urged to attend. card games may be arranged upon request with Mr. W. Kiliwnix.

Dogs At Large Prompt Village Action In Rossburn
Residents report many dogs running freely in Rossburn while other animals appear in the residential area. By Law 278 prohibits keeping cattle hogs sheep goats or poultry in any enclosure without written permit from the village council, and no permit holds exist.

The Manitoba Good Roads Association completed 1971 judging after four judge teams logged about 14 000 miles. In Class 5 Group B Shoal Lake won The Banfield Cup for most improvement in beautification. Class 6 Group B Miniota won The Wade Trophy for an unincorporated village not previously prize winning.
