Rossburn school life highlights upcoming big announcements and repeats reminders for exams on October 15. Badminton draws Junior and Senior high turnout with spills and thrills and a call for a basketball tournament invitation to other schools. The column also notes humor, safety warnings for duck season, and student activities including a new school glee club and perfect attendance push.
Eleanor Margaret Stitt wed Douglas William Leckie on Saturday October 2 at Vista United Church. Rev McNeill officiated. reception at Stitt home followed. Honeymoon planned to Vancouver. notable guests from Vista Rossburn MacGregor Portage la Prairie and Winnipeg attended.
Mrs W McIntosh of Winnipeg visited her relatives Mrs Wm Stitt and Mrs Wm Young in Ninette. Mr and Mrs Steve Woychasen toured Winnipeg and moved into a new home. Misses Margaret Hay Roblin and Phyllis Dudgeon Deloraine stayed with Mr and Mrs Hay. A Vista Boys and Girls Club Fair drew many entries in Hall and Poultry. Prize winners to be announced next week. Appreciation extended for sandwiches and pies aiding Rossburn Hospital. Mrs O Donnell Corrine Portage la Prairie visited the Hamiltons. Mr Duncan of Winnipeg recently returned home by bus.
Archie McPhail and his bride from Geralds town Ontario spent a week visiting relatives in the district. Former Vista boy Archie and his wife receive best wishes for happiness in life together.
The Argyle Presbyterian Church observed its 50th founding anniversary with Rev. D. T. Evans as guest speaker. He spoke on the church’s work in Canada since Huguenot founders arrived and urged support for future missions, with attendance signing the register and a commemorative photo of the original congregation.
The Junior Ladies Aid will meet in the Club Room on Tuesday October 12. Hostesses are Lorna Veitch Margaret Crookshanks Margaret Cleland and May Lawless. Roll Call is a jar of fruit or vegetables for the hospital donation. Dues for the year are payable at this meeting. Members urged to bring a new member.
Miss Eleanor Stitt was guest of honor at a miscellaneous shower held Thursday at Mrs. H. Hamilton’s home in Vista. Bride’s chair was decorated with white bells and pink and white streamers, pink and white sweet peas in vases, and corsaged gifts from Margaret Young and Catherine Armstrong. Readings and wrapping by former schoolmates followed, with a brief address by Mrs. R. Hay Jr. Afterward, guests sang and a luncheon was served to more than sixty attendees.
