After seven days of sun, heavy rain and a thunderstorm moved through Tuesday with near cloudburst rainfall. By 11:20 a.m. Wednesday another 1.66 inches fell, lifting the season total to 18.22 inches since April 1, hindering harvesting progress despite weekend headway.
September was a cooler than normal month with significantly more rain. Average highs 61 and lows 51 yielded a mean of 51 degrees. the warmest day reached 78 on September 9 and the coolest 24 on September 15. Rain totaled 4.61 inches with thunderstorms on three days. rain fell on 11 days while 19 days had sunshine.
The Review notes the likely largest tomato grown in Brandon was 1 lb 9 oz, cultivated by Mr and Mrs Bill Melnyk in their garden.
The Parkland Library begins a new circulation system and requires all books be returned to the Rossburn local library on Monday or Tuesday October 8 and 9 from 7 to 9 p.m. to be sent back to Dauphin. This is very important.
Fire Monday evening at 7:00 p m consumed an Edsel car on the Kachan Kos tecki lot across from their garage. Rossburn fire truck arrived quickly and saved a second car and a piece of farm machinery from damage. The Edsel gas tank, reportedly half full, did not explode mitigating a potential disaster.
Ed Berney reeled in a 20 lb jack at Rossman Lake on Monday afternoon. The fish measured 40 inches long excluding tail and marked an excellent October 1 catch for the day. He was excited and pleased with the large memento of his outing.
The September Rossburn Hospital Auxiliary met at Joyce Brown’s home with 16 members and 4 new members Doris Caldwell Mary Procyk Sharon Bergerman and Diane Gregorash. Officers and committees were announced. A bed unit bid and sale plans were approved. The Harvest Festival stall raised 41.25 and Linda Lamabe was elected president. The next meeting will be at Anne Slon’s home.
Rossburn Lions Manor approaches full occupancy with 12 tenants in single suites and two units left the double and wheelchair units. Manager Lion Jack Sector hopes for double unit tenants soon and may rent the wheel-chair as a single if needed. Call Lion Sector for details.
Nomination Day results in Rossburn Village and Rural Municipality show incumbents reelected by acclamation. Reeve John Mitchell and councillors Ernest Drulin and Charles Derlago retain seats. Village Mayor Louis Kurchaba and two councillors also reappointed. Pelly Trail School Division trustees elected by acclamation include Schmitke Tibbatts Mazur McKeitiuk and McMurachy. Norman Major retires after 22 years.
Mrs. Ann Maydaniuk wins 365 at St Lazare Bingo after playing 29 cards. Sun day marked a lucky rise for the hometown bettor as she claimed the prize.
Former Ranchvale W I formed in 1923 later became Birdtail W I during postwar rezoning. Golden anniversary observed July 29 at Rossburn Town Hall with 22 members and numerous district guests. Presiding officers and members recited the Creed and memorial service honored past members.
