The 1978 Speech Arts Festival concluded Friday with a final concert of winners. Highlights included a French poetry session judged by Dr. Dennis Essar and taped selections for the Hi-Lites Concert in Brandon.
The Pelly Trail School Division met on Monday afternoon November 27 and voted to reopen the Angusville school, signaling renewed emphasis on local education. The decision reflects community support and future plans for grades and staffing.
At the 1978 Manitoba Gymkhana Rodeo Association Awards Night in Brandon the Bergeson family won multiple honors. Gordon Bergeson captured High Point Pole Bending High Average Pole Bending and High Point Men's Barrel Racing trophies in the Senior Division.
A Tea and Bake Sale held on Saturday November 25 aided the Cubs and Scouts. Raffle winners were Colleen Palmer first for a Macrame Plant Hanger and Nick Kalyniuk third for a Candle. The Parent Committee thanks all who baked, donated prizes, or attended.
Finance committee report for Pelly Trail S D at the November 3 meeting covers end of September 1978 figures. Administration and Day School show lower spending relative to budgets, while Transportation runs at 67.8 percent. overall revenues for 1978 are projected to fall due to noted factors.
A Come and Go Tea at the Ukrainian National Home in Menzie honored Mr. and Mrs. Steve H. Chwaluk on their 60th wedding anniversary. Organizers were daughter Rose Manuliak and son Tony Chwaluk with Mae, assisted by grandchildren. The event opened with kolach and salt, flowers pinned, and prayers by Rev. M. Skrumeda.
At the November 8 meeting the Rossburn council announced committee assignments. Members Miron Swintak and Ernest Stefanuk head Finance and Employee Relations. Transportation Services lists Drosdoski and Kostecky with Stefanuk and Swintak on Drainage and Sidewalks. Public Health Welfare sees Swintak and Kostecky on Social Assistance with Recreation and Cultural Services covered by Kostecky and Stefanuk. Skating Rink includes Swintak. Waterworks assigns Drosdoski and Swintak. Also named are Rick Ambulance Committee and Arena Board with Morley Kostecky. Beautification and Land Rehabilitation headed by Drosdoski and Swintak. The Mayor serves as ex-officio on most committees.
Regular meeting of the Local Government District of Park on November 13 1978 includes Court of Revision decisions denying Roll 72000 sustaining Rolls 31881 31897 reducing Roll 31830 by 100 and removing Roll 150900 and Bill from assessment.
