RCI boys volleyball claim third straight provincial berth
The Rossburn Collegiate team earned a spot in the C school provincial championships in Glenboro December 7 and 8 after defeating Birtle and Elphinstone and winning the zone title final against Hamiota 15-3 14-16 15-12. Captain Ray Zegalski led a roster that included Perry Borowski, Raymond Lysyshin, Gerald Lysyshin, Danny Reles, Brad Lonsberry, Larry Tanasychuk, Mark Stitt, Kevin Kostecki and Kelly Kostecky.

Ivan Franko cultural centre grant approved for Rossburn
Cultural Affairs Minister Norma Price announced a $10,000 grant to the Ukrainian Peoples Home of Ivan Franko to renovate and expand the Rossburn cultural centre. The project will promote Ukrainian culture regionally, supported by a Multicultural Capital Assistance program offering one third of approved costs up to $50,000.

Bergeson Wins Manitoba Gymkana Association Awards
The Manitoba Gymkana Rodeo Association held its annual awards in Brandon on November 17. Doug Bergeson captured High Point Junior Reining High Average Junior Pole Bending and High Point Junior for 1979. Gordon Bergeson earned High Average Senior Pole Bending and High Point Men's Barrel Race trophies.

World Flax Champion at 51st Royal Winter Fair
Frank Jacobs and Sons of Foxwarren exhibited the World Flax Champion at the 51st Royal Agricultural Winter Fair. Jacobs, shown with trophy donor Canadian Co‑operative Wheat Producers Limited, also held last year’s flax title and earlier rye championships in 1972 and 1973. He won a second prize for hard red or white spring wheat this year.
