A rural tale from Qu'Appelle Saskatchewan tells of a boy borrowing a neighbor's paper on a hornets nest incident. Chaos follows as a series of accidents injures the family while the bandit hornet nest triggers mishaps. The moral warns that one should subscribe to their local paper.
The Silver Beach Fish Derby closes with Fred Pushka winning first prize of 20 for a 16 lb jack fish caught July 1. Lawrence Halowski takes second prize of 10 for a 14 42 lb jack fish caught July 9.
A community drive urges funding and volunteer labor for the Rossburn Memorial Sports Arena. The Rossburn Legion hosts a Nov 10 dance with Don's Imperials, inviting veterans families and the public, while calls go out for men to work before winter to set rafters and level ground.
Miss Elsie Shmyr daughter of Mr and Mrs S Shmyr has been awarded the Ladies University Scholarship. A former teacher in the Rossburn district she now attends Regina College.
A heavy fall of snow delays harvest with about twenty five percent of the crop still in fields. Three inches have fallen this week and weather remains unsettled. Many farmers have finished, others have not yet started, as winter weather hampers progress.
A few weeks ago Dunc McIn tyre shot a banded mallard and did not notify the proper address. The duck was banded at Decatur Alabama on December 3 1946 by the Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge.

Unthreshed grain and low grades stress livestock value. Bangs disease is a danger to cattle and humans. Vaccination of heifer calves at four to eight months is recommended, organized by a community agricultural group or by individual farmers. Cost is minimal and $1.00 per head is reimbursed by the Livestock Branch.
The Rossburn Women’s Institute held a successful Hallowe’en party in the Club Room on October 31. Visiting Institutes from Vista Birdtail and Solsgirth attended. Members arrived in costume and won many prizes for fancy and comic outfits. A community sing led by Mrs. C Workman from Solsgirth was a highlight, concluding with a lovely bunch served.
Walter Omelian a 17 year old from Selkirk Manitoba wins the first M C I Scholarship valued at 1900 dollars. He will pursue a five year Civil or Mechanical Engineering course at a university and may work at the Motor Coach Industries plant during holidays. A permanent position awaits upon graduation if he accepts.
Party of Manitoba reelected Errick F. Willis as leader at the Brandon convention October 26 27. Willis tendered his resignation and won reelection 188 to 35 alongside George Victor Hastings. Debate focused on withdrawal from coalition with 215 voting yes 17 no after an amendment to continue coalition failed 215 to 26.
