Colleges Grant Funds Writing Enrichment Pilot

Manitoba Education Minister Maureen Hemphill announces a 1100 grant to Rossburn Collegiate to pilot a writing enrichment program for English 301 students. The total Schools Support Plans allocation for 275 schools in 1985 86 includes over 100000 for developing and testing writing models to boost small school education.

Premier Pawley Tours Parkland Manitoba Town

Premier Howard Pawley visited Rossburn on Friday during a four day Parkland tour. He spoke with seniors at Rossburn Lions Manor and discussed local concerns before stopping at N L Restaurant for refreshments. The trip continued to Neepawa Ste Rose and Dauphin.

Manitoba announces police funding grants under new formula

Municipal Affairs Minister Andy Anstett said $636,621 will be paid to Manitoba municipalities to help policing costs. The first payment under the April adopted formula includes a policing levy and grants with a first year subsidy to prevent local losses, benefiting 42 municipalities.

Premier blocked from speaking to Russell students

Russell school officials refused Premier Howard Pawley a speaking engagement at Major Pratt Collegiate citing the Pelly Trail School Division policy to keep politics out of schools. Superintendent Howard Smith and board members concurred, noting the move applies to other politicians and election year.
