Terry Kurchaba of Rossburn becomes the new icemaker for the Rossburn Agri Rec Centre replacing Myron Glushka. He will learn ice making from an experienced pro, prepare curling ice and boards, and plans to attend Icemaking School in Gimli next season. The centre uses geothermal tech and aims to test the ice in about two weeks.
High school hockey returns as Strathclair Shoal Lake and Rossburn meet new identity the South Park Bruins. New head coach Glen McNabb and assistant Ryan Borody lead players in early practices and jacketed team uniforms. In Oct weekend exhibitions the Bruins hosted Hamiota Huskies and Minnedosa Chancellors with Scott Malchuk scoring the first goal and Curtis Smith netting the winner as Ian Schoonbaert guarded the net.
Justice Minister Rosemary Vodrey announced at the Teens Against Drinking and Driving conference in Winnipeg that Manitoba will introduce stronger legislation next year. The measures target BAC .05 or higher with 24 hour suspensions for .05 to .08, automatic addiction assessments after multiple suspensions, and stricter penalties alongside existing provisions.
On Oct 11 the Rossburn area switched from party lines to Individual Line Service as part of MTS under the 800 million modernization program. By the mid-1990s all 47 000 Manitoba party lines will convert to ILS improving privacy and services including ANI and support for PCs and faxes with features like Call Waiting and Call Forwarding.
