Rossburn Village Council discusses mill tax appeal and store hours

At the May meeting of the Rossburn village council all members attended. James Harlow, for mill owner Semkiw, asked tax relief which the Court of Revision will review in fall. Merchants urged closing-hour changes, which were kept as last year. Delegates also sought backing for the Memorial Sports Arena and questioned Curling Rink title.

Wheat Acreage Reduced Across District

Farmers in the district report reduced wheat sowing due to a late spring and rains since snowmelt. Most fields now show wild oats, with many acreage shifted to oats and barley and some fields needing replanting to coarse grains for better yields. Moisture remains average for the season.

Report On May Hospital Aid Meeting

The May Hospital Aid meeting praised the ways and means committee for Amateur Night proceeds of 381.61 and tag day totals of 152.67 from ten rural schools. The card tournament yielded 3000, and 249.50 was approved to cover lighting costs. The next meeting was set for June 26 at 9 PM with a Roll Call on Household Hints or Cooking Tips. The group aims to expand hospital aid branches across the community and recruit new members.

Red Cross Thanks Manitoba Responders After Flood Evacuation

The Red Cross acknowledges shelter offers from Manitoba cities and towns for flood victims from the Red River valley. It reports about 37 000 total accommodations outside the danger area and that roughly 4 000 people have been sent there, with another 14 000 proceeding.
