Last Rites for Mr. S. P. Fox 69 in Rossburn

The funeral for Samuel Perry Fox aged 69 was held at Rossburn United Church with interment in Rossburn Cemetery. Officiating were Pastor W. B. Eaton and Pastor H. Johnstone. pallbearers and honorary pallbearers listed. born 1881 in Hereford England, he later lived in Shoal Lake Kelloe Stewart's Lake and is survived by daughters Helen and Pearl and son Walter.

Birtle Presbyterial marks 25th anniversary meeting

Bad roads and heavy snow did not stop the over 100 attendees in Birtle on May 9 for the Birtle Presbyterial annual meeting. Rev Smith led a communion service, Isobel McTavish spoke on Han an after occupation and called for North China mission training. Mrs Conly received a silver tea service and a two story birthday cake highlighted a 25th anniversary celebration.

Record Breaker Emp ress of Scotland passes Father Point in trans Atlantic run

The 26 000 ton Canadian Pacific liner Empress of Scotland, reconditioned for post war service, set a trans Atlantic record after leaving Greenock and reaching Quebec City in 120 hours 36 minutes. The ship, formerly Empress of Japan, carried the All England Football Team on a Canada US tour and was captained by E A Shergold.

W I Hold Convention At Fox Warren May 20

The ninth annual Roblin Russell District Women’s Institute convention met at Fox Warren on Saturday May 20. Four Rossburn WI members attended led by Mrs Wilson Sritt who gave the welcome. Delegates from Rossburn included Mrs W Armstrong and Mrs H McIntosh. Mrs McIntosh read the year’s Rossburn WI report. Mrs Mamaluga was elected new Board Member for Rossburn replacing Mrs Crookshanks who resigned and is leaving Rossburn.

Vista Girls Choir Wins Amateur Nite At Hospital Aid

The Vista Girls Choir topped the Amateur Nite contest raising nearly 40000 for the Hospital Aid Society supporting the new Rossburn hospital. Contestants ranged from four year old Donnie Stitt to Winnipeg evacuees Shirley Huston Sylvia Bonikoski and Vivian Spilchak with voting tallies 254 192 and 142 for the top three. Danc McIntyre’s Orchestra closed the evening with a dance.

Red Cross urges halt to clothing shipments in Winnipeg floods

Flood bulletins warn all agents not to forward clothing billed to Red Cross in Winnipeg. Shipments arriving in large volumes strain Red Cross facilities. only accept if Red Cross has guaranteed acceptance. Flood control headquarters also directs agents to tell returnees they are not yet wanted in Winnipeg and to await official approval.
