Grade 8 trip to Banff Alberta highlights student fundraising
Nineteen Grade 8 students from Rossburn Elementary head to Banff Alberta on May 31 with chaperones John Calder Wendell Cleland Judy Bartkin and Zelma Salyn. They raised 7600 for trip expenses with fundraisers including a fashion show yard sale clean a thon and stone picking. Students will tour Tunnel Mt Ridge Johnson Canyon Hike Banff Springs Hotel Upper Hot Springs Sundance Canyon Valley of Ten Peaks and Banff museums and shops while keeping daily journals. They return home June 8.

English doctor joins Rossburn Health Centre staff
The Rossburn District Health Centre Board faced a doctor shortage in March after Dr P Rice resigned. Dr E R Samuels will serve four months, with Dr Geoff Sinton of Liverpool expected in June. A second physician is under review. Nursing staff changes include new casual RNs M Janzen K Bauer and B Oliver, with K Mohr and E Kostesky leaving.

Stefanuk to retire as Rossburn Collegiate principal
Stefanuk, principal of Rossburn Collegiate, will retire at end of June after 26 years with the school. He led 17 years as principal and 6 years as Social Studies Department Head. He plans travel first year, then possible part time education work. the Pelly Trail School Division seeks a new principal to start 1985-86.

Summer student joins Rossburn RCMP detachment
Wes Crealock, twenty, is the new Special Constable at the Rossburn RCMP Detachment for a 17 week summer term. A Portage la Prairie farm youth, he just finished his second year of Criminology at the University of Manitoba and will return for his third year in September. He plans RCMP training in Regina after completing university. The program, tied to International Youth Year 1985, aims to offer summer law and social science jobs, with Rossburn hoping for another student next year despite 285 applicants for 36 positions.

Landowners urged to heed fire safety warnings in Manitoba
Manitoba Natural Resources warns landowners to consult a Natural Resource Officer before any fire. About 60 percent of forest fires arise from human carelessness. By year end 1984 Manitoba saw 692 fires linked to grass debris or peat, costing about 1.4 million dollars. Fire causes include unattended burns and reckless acts. permit holders bear responsibility even with permits. Fines or imprisonment may follow fires out of control.
