Rossburn Little Leaguers traveled to Shoal Lake Friday and were shut out 12-0 as Ken Harrison and Bill Shields anchored Shoal Lake’s win with solid pitching and three home runs. For Rossburn, Brian Kowal and Keith Elvers allowed the big blows, while Edward Koran fanned 15 in a separate dusk game. The hometown crowd, small in number, watched as Shoal Lake pulled away in the later innings sealing the doubleheader.

Death of Rossburn Pioneer At Carman May 15
Thomas David Bradshaw a Rossburn district old-timer died at Carman Manitoba on May 14 at 96. Born in Glasgow in 1858, he leaves four sons and three daughters. He came to Rossburn in the 1890s, ran the Dick Young ranch, and later farmed. His family left the district in 1917. His daughter Emily later worked at Carman Hospital. Granddaughters Nita Butler and Bessie Fowler still reside nearby.

A hardball game on May 25 saw Shoal Lake beat Vista 18-14 despite cold weather and errors.

Summer Week End Downgraded For Travelers In Town

Here Comes Charlie Well Received in Town Hall
The play Here Comes Charlie was staged in the town hall on May 20 with a good crowd. Mrs J G Stitt directed and the acting was praised. After expenses, $78.00 was realized. The show was well worth seeing. Friday night it moved to Vista where a fair crowd attended.

Funeral Service for W. J. Bolton at St James Church
William John Wellington Bolton 91 of Neepawa died May 16 in Portage la Prairie Hospital. Funeral held Wednesday at St James Anglican Church Neepawa with Rev E H Hyett officiating. Burial in Riverside Cemetery. Bolton born Bayfield Ontario moved west, farmed Kelloe then Glenella as grain buyer for Northern Elevator Co. Served as Glenella police magistrate and longtime Black Lodge member. He moved to Neepawa about 10 years ago.

Rossburn United Church Discusses Liquor Brief Submission
A Tuesday church meeting appointed Mrs. Bob Peden as lay representative to the Manitoba Conference in Winnipeg June 7-11. They discussed a brief for the Bracken Commission urging no broadening of liquor laws, permitting beer parlor dining, and open drinking, while favoring ending treating, and proposing extract sales fall under the Liquor Control Act. Members urged voluntary abstinence as example to youth.

The 13th Roblin district Women’s Institute convention was held on May 19 in Roblin with delegates from Rossburn and Birdtail. Mrs. Howard Alexander was elected Rossburn board member. Speakers included Miss Jean Hunter and Miss Frances McKay. Rossburn invited the next convention to Rossburn for 1955.
