Seeding Dates and Depths Affect Yields in Manitoba Trials
Weather worries farmers across Shoal Lake area as seeding dates and depths are tested for wheat barley and flax yields. Wheat shows high sensitivity to May planting with declines toward June. barley favors shallow depths while one inch yields best if moisture is available. Flax spraying needs more water to reduce injury and delay maturity, with five to 15 gallons per acre producing varying yields. 4-H awards and leadership trips are announced for Shoal Lake area youths and leaders.
