Fred Didych Chosen for Canada World Youth Program
Fred Didych of Rossburn is among eight Manitoba youths selected for the 1987 88 Canada World Youth program. He will spend seven months in Sri Lanka with an initial three and a half months in Saskatchewan with other Canadian and Sri Lankan youths. The program, in its sixteenth year, promotes cross cultural exchange and community work.

Russell School project gains approval for new facility
Education Minister Jerry Storie announced approval for a 2 000 square foot day care and a 7 000 square foot addition at Major Pratt School in Pelly Trail Division to serve Kindergarten through Grade 12. The plan includes two science labs a classroom a computer room and a typing business education area with renovations to existing spaces. The total cost is about 1 million dollars as part of an 81 million three year commitment to new school facilities in Manitoba.

Wind-Up talent shines at Ukrainian Cultural Centre event
The Ukrainian Cultural Centre in Rossburn hosted a Friday May 8 wind-up showing regional talent. Performers included a Sandy Lake choir, Rossburn tsymbaly players, Oakburn dancers, and a Rossburn choir with several local artists. Mae Chwaluk led a sing song after the concert, and Peter Lamb violin and Mike Tanasychuk tsymbaly provided a public dance with students. Lunch was served by the Rossburn choir and Cultural Club membership prizes were awarded to Joe Senko, Shirley Kalyniuk, Leonard Bartko, Christa Alyniuk, and Ann Gurnick. A fall event is hoped for Oakburn or Sandy Lake.
