Willis Addressed Conservative Nomination in Angusville

Errick Willis spoke at Angusville hall for the Conservative nomination as Keith Porter and Joseph Gordon Taylor faced voters. Porter, a Binscarth businessman and World War II veteran, won support from about sixty attendees before Willis urged campaign effort for Porter's wresting of Russell from long-time administration.

Carol McIntosh and Russell Ellis Wed in May 1953

The wedding took place at Rossburn United Church at 2 30 p m on May 16 1953. Carol McIntosh daughter of Mr and Mrs Howard McIntosh married Russell Ellis son of Mr and Mrs A Ellis of Oakburn. Rev W Harland officiated with Alva Williamson as bridesmaid Evangeline Karmazenuk maid of honor Kent Greenfield best man. The couple left for a short honeymoon at Clear Lake.

Ukrainian Male Chorus concert in Rossburn Town Hall

The Ukrainian Male Chorus of Winnipeg directed by W. Bohonos performed at Rossburn Town Hall on Sunday night May 17. The show was arranged by the local branch of the Canadian Ukrainian Committee and enjoyed by all in attendance.

Passing of Mrs Barbara Jane Harlow

Mrs Barbara Jane Harlow of Rossburn Manitoba died at home on Saturday May 16 at 5 30 pm in her eightieth year. Born Stronsay Orkney Islands she came to Souris Manitoba then Rossburn with her husband and family. Survived by daughters Vina Anne Mary and sons Henry James. predeceased by husband Joshua Henry and children Stanley Oliver Elizabeth Ethel. Funeral May 19 at 2 pm Rossburn United Church officiated by H Alston and R J Barclay. Interment Rossburn cemetery. Pallbearers listed.

Mike Sotas Nominated By CCF To Contest June 8th Election

The Russell provincial constituency CCF nomination on May 13 drew 150 attendees. Mike Tokar of Rossburn and Mike Sotas of Glen Elmo were nominated with Sotas winning the ballot as former MP Fred Zaplitny spoke on the political situation.

Canadian Railways employees chosen for coronation trip

Twenty three CN employees including eight from Western Canada were selected to attend the London coronation ceremonies in June. The contingent represents Canada’s Navy Army and Air Force with Western delegates from Yorkton Sask Carman Saskatoon Winnipeg Transcona Vancouver and Victoria among others. An executive meeting outlined an extensive campaign with Pete Kostiuk as manager and official agent.

Funeral service for Mrs Vasel ena Barnesky aged 96 was held at Glen Elmo Ukrainian Greek Orthodox Church on Wednesday May 20. Mrs Barnesky died Saturday afternoon May 16. Complete obituary to be published next week.

Mountie horses loaded for London coronation events

A 10 man Mountie party led by Staff Sergeant C. W. Anderson accompanies horses en route to London for coronation parade duties. The beasts are loaded aboard four palace horse cars at Ottawa West Yards and aboard the Beaverburn at Montreal harbor in padded stalls with space between decks for daily exercise.
