Parkland Development opens technical reference library in Dauphin

Parkland Development Corporation announces a growing technical reference library at its head office in Dauphin. Open to citizens of Parkland member municipalities with limited borrowings and no charge. Hours are 10:30–11:30 a.m. and 3:00–4:00 p.m. weekdays.

Neepawa Lions Band Concert Set for June 1 at Rossman Lake

The Neepawa Lions Band will entertain at a Band Concert on Sunday June 1 at Rossman Lake with both afternoon and evening performances. The event is presented under the auspices of the Rossburn Lions Club by the Neepawa Band.

Birdtail Women’s Institute May Meeting Report

The Birdtail Women’s Institute held its May gathering May 1 at Myrtle Maxwell’s home with 8 members and 4 visitors. Activities included Mother’s Day gift exchange, The Creed, a business talk on a Provincial Convention delegate, and entertainment of England pictures and Queen’s dolls. Jessie Caldwell won the jackpot. Karen Maxwell drew the lucky ticket. Lunch was served by Myrtle Maxwell. Next meeting is June 5 at Freda Butler’s home with roll call to be answered and members to bring a friend.

Wedding in Victoria Unites Darlene Mattern and Terence Fowler

Darlene Laverne Mattern and Terence Ryan Fowler were married in a double ring ceremony at Oak Bay United Church Victoria on Saturday May 3 1969. Attendants included Marianne Wylie Brenda Mattern Keith Wylie and Dwight Mattern with a reception in Reaffern Hall. The couple will live in Yellowknife Northwest Territories after touring the Island.

Weather shifts from heat to cool amid storms and rain needs

A warm week gave way to a thunderstorm after midnight Tuesday then cooler air today. Sunshine returns after rainy days, while areas near the Saskatchewan border report rainfall shortages. Monthly and daily records appear, noting highs of 89 and lows of 22 in past years at Rossburn.

Camping Week-end For Local Scout Troops

Local Scouts prepare for the Camporee at Camp Oot Kw a Tah on Laurie Lake in the Duck Mountains. Rossburn patrols send four groups and Waywaysee Capo Troop brings five patrols. Last year’s cold conditions drew distant attendees from Edmonton and visitors are invited on Sunday.

Rossburn Lions Club Volunteer Service Highlights

The Rossburn Lions Club details a long list of community efforts including chaperoning student dances, Easter Seals drives, mailing campaign postage, transportation pools for minor sports, supplying uniforms, supporting figure skating with $150 annual donations, sponsoring Wolf Cubs and Boy Scouts, staging annual Christmas shows, underwriting community events, Tag Day CNIB campaigns, and organizing Ball Tournament Ice Carnival and Boxing Day Hockey Tournament profits to aid local groups. The club invites new members to join the community service group.

Cougar Sighting Reported Near Local Residence

On Friday evening May 9 Michael Twovoice his wife and son reported a cougar sighting near Nick Maryniuk’s residence. The animal crossed the road leapt a clay bank crouched and watched them then ran north along the hillside toward a river crossing near a beaver dam and headed into the hills by the Bar C Ranch. Twovoice called it the biggest cat he has seen and very fleet.

Film On Drugs To Be Shown At May Meeting

The May meeting of the Rossburn Home and School is set for Thursday May 22 at 8 p.m. at Rossburn Elementary School. The program will feature a film dealing with drugs and Mr Ed Reimer will be the guest speaker.
