Dust Storm Forces School Closing

Severe dust storm and heat wave hit Rossburn Manitoba on May 12 forcing the local school to abandon classes after two o clock. Wind gusts over 60 mph dried fields and created thick soil dust in the building making study conditions untenable.

Harris and rival to debate on public platform in Rossburn

A letter from a Rossburn correspondent commends E H Harris for accepting a challenge to a public debate. The writer plans to settle officials and details soon and suggests the event occur before the by law re submission, which cannot be before August 15.

Game and Fish Association Meeting at Sandy Lake

The Sandy Lake Game and Fish Association held a regular meeting in the school auditorium with A. Spragg presiding. Plans outlined include sponsoring a Fish Derby at Sandy Lake on Sunday May 18 and painting camp tables and benches.

A son was born to Mr. and Mrs Walter Kaskiw of Kelloe on May 11 and a son to Mr. and Mrs Mike Barnesky of Birdtail on May 12 at Rossburn Hospital.

Rossburn Cemetery seeks funds for caretaker and plots

The Rossburn Cemetery Committee notes May poll appeared. caretaker working and grass growing. Donations from distant friends, including Vancouver and Edmonton, help cover caretaking costs. Plot care costs are $3 for a single grave and $5 for a multi grave plot. Residents may tend their own plots but should keep them clean. Air Force speaker promotes education at graduation week

FiS Frank Campbell of the RCAF urged importance of education in all careers and highlighted Air Force fields open to youth. Graduation exercises are set for Friday May 16 at town hall. Year Book sale planned at the door. A dance at the National Home will follow with Terry and his Terriers performing.

A May 17 bride elect Lydia Luhowy was honored at a Parish Hall shower on Saturday evening. She was escorted to a decorated chair as hostesses presented corsages to her mother and grandmother and gifts were admired before a lunch was served.

Shower Honors Mrs Twerdochlib at United Church Event

A shower for Mrs. Twerdochlib (nee Hazel Chegwin) was held at the United Church last Thursday May 8. She entered with escorts, received corsages, and gifts were opened by Jean Armstrong Eleanor Mitchell and Jane Johnston while Hazel expressed thanks for the thoughtful offerings.

The WA and WMS held a joint meeting opening with hymns and a theme Understanding One Another. Mrs. C. V. Gunn became Friendship secretary of Birtle Presbytery. Reports covered CGIT work and Japan articles. Plans to split expenses for overseas clothing relief were made.

Double Christening At St. Michael's Ukrainian Church

The St Michael's Ukrainian Greek Orthodox church in Sandy Lake held a double christening this Sunday. Darcia Ann, daughter of Mr and Mrs P J Koltuisky, and Terry Kenneth, son of Mr and Mrs Peter Hnatuk, were named by officiant Rev J Rybalka. Godparents were Tilly Rystephanuk and Peter Elichuk for Darcia Ann and Marian Zdebriak and Peter Rystephanuk for Terry Kennth. Reception followed at the Koltuisky and Hnatuk homes.
