Delegation Pushes Rebuild of Russell-Erickson Highway

A provincial government delegation discussed the Russell-Erickson route, agreeing the road must be rebuilt to trunk Highway standards. The minister agreed to 100 percent summer maintenance until the No. 4 highway is finished, with municipalities paying a third of snow plowing costs, saving Rossburn area an estimated 2000 to 2500 dollars annually. Officials praised Mr. Clement and Ed Shust for hospital and local projects, hoping for grants to improve access to the Indian Reservation beyond the Rossburn Public Cemetery.

Lillian Peikoff, born and educated in Rossburn, has died in Montreal at age 56. She passed away on Thursday May 1 and the funeral was held Sunday May 9 from Shaarey Zeded Cemetery. Rossburn residents extend sympathy to her relatives.

The Shoal Lake district hosts the District 4-H Public Speaking contest at United Church Birtle on May 27 at 8 p m.
