Sod Turning Marks Start of Manco Cheese Factory

Monday May 6 saw a damp but hopeful sod turning at the site of the new Manco Cheese Factory. Doug Andrew led the ceremony with Don Erickson as chair while Rev Gordon Fulford Rossburn Chamber president and Mayor John W Cormack addressed attendees. Phil Isaacs and Ron Hale spoke for Manco as the first sod was turned with a gold plated shovel signaling immediate construction to follow.

Rossburn Chamber Holds Regular Meeting May 2

The Rossburn Chamber of Commerce met on Thursday May 2 with 20 members present. It adopted the 1968 fee schedule and is soliciting memberships. Reports covered the Manitoba Chambers of Commerce meeting in Brandon and sod turning at the Cheese Factory site on May 6. Discussion addressed Rossburn housing, town planning scheme access, dust control plans, and potential future road developments before adjournment.

He leads the Sandy Lake Chamber of Commerce and holds posts in water sports groups. Born near Hadleighville, he spent 11 years with Winnipeg’s Engineering Dept.

Rossburn Hospital Auxiliary Holds April Meeting

The Rossburn Hospital Auxiliary met April 23 in the nurses residence with 21 members present. Minutes and treasurer reports were adopted. lunch sales earned 20.55. A tour of the new waiting room followed and furnishings were approved. Next meeting is May 28 at Vi McKietiuk’s home.

The May 7 meeting opened with O Canada and the Creed under President Mrs. Moan. Resolutions were read for the forthcoming Russell convention on May 14. Donations to Cancer Relief totaled 61.89 with funds also raised by Pennies for Friendship and a Jackpot. A delegate was named for Russell and Winnipeg conventions. The June meeting will feature the Grandmother's Tea and an invitation to attend.

Shoal Lake born and raised Jack Nesbitt announces Liberal party nomination bid for Marquette Constituency. A 43 year old married father of four with agriculture degree from the University of Manitoba, Nesbitt cites farm and rural community concerns and his work with farm, women and youth groups.

Rossburn Cubs Farewell Leader Cst. Bob Mow

Friday evening members of the Rossburn First Wolf Cub Pack and parents gathered at Rossburn Elementary School to bid farewell to Cst. Bob Mow who had been associated with the Pack since January 1966 and leader since May 1966. Adam Char chuck acted as master of ceremonies. Dist rict Scouter Ernest Stefanuk spoke for the Scouting District while George Lawless spoke for the parents Wayne Carson will be succeeding as Cub Master. Senior Sixer Randy Komhyr presented Akela with an engraved trophy as a parting gift.
