Rossburn mill rate lowered for 1968 plan set

Rossburn Village Council met May 1 to set the 1968 tax levy. The revised mill rates include School Levy 10.0 mills Foundation 29.8 mills Farm or Residential 9.5 mills Special 9.5 mills Hosp Dist Deb 9.0 mills General Reserve 1.0 mill Mun. Affairs 1.0 mill Improved area 7.0 mills Municipal General 17.0 mills. The owner of a home in the improved area faces 46.4 mills total with a 66.2 mill rate for improved area commercial.

Manitoba Baseball Association invites wider participation

A newly formed Manitoba Baseball Association invites all Manitoba teams and leagues from 12 years and under to seniors. Affiliated with Western Canada Baseball Association and Canadian Federation of Amateur Baseball, the MBA sponsors provincial playdowns tournaments and clinics. Provincially appointed convener roles listed by category and region to run playoffs.

Pentecostal Parsonage Hosts Friday Social Gathering

An April 26 event at the Pentecostal Parsonage honored Miss Emily Gurr the church’s new pastor with a pantry shower. James Sherritt celebrated his 88th birthday with a gift, and Melville Brown received a farewell gift as he prepares to move near Brandon after two years as Sunday School secretary. Lunch was served.

Weed Pullers 4-H Meeting Reports and Plans

On April 23 the Oakburn Weed Pullers 4-H club met at the school with two leaders and 13 members present. Handley Tully reported on the Brandon 4-H conference and Wayne Muzylewski on last year’s camp. Mrs Schwaluk discussed demonstration ideas. The next meeting on May 22 will feature weed judging.

Winnipeg and area residents visit over weekend events

Mr and Mrs D Young and Cindy of Winnipeg visited the past week with Mr and Mrs Young. Mrs M Miller returned home from hospital. Anne and Duncan visited for the weekend. Mrs Ronnie Kostesky wed on April 29. Leonard Mackedenski and a Winnipeg friend visited A Mackedenski. Mrs T Martin of Glenella visited her mother Mrs Halliday. Mr and Mrs B Driedger with girls visited A Driedger at Mace Gregor. Church services begin at 11 20 a m this Sunday. Mr and Mrs D Hamilton of Brandon visited H Hamilton and hospitalised Mrs Hamilton. Charlene Thompson of Brandon spent the weekend with Sonia and Bernice Belinsky.

Oakburn 4 H Club Achieves At Achievement Day

The Oakburn Home Economics Club held Achievement Day in the school auditorium on April 25. Members displayed work graded by Miss Barker. Reports were given by the secretary and treasurer. Junior and senior demonstrations, a skit, and a fashion show featured. 5 year and 6 year awards awarded to several members. Displays planned for a June rally at Oak River.

Home and School Meet at Rossburn May 9

A Rossburn Home and School Association meeting is scheduled for Thursday May 9 at 8:00 p.m. in Rossburn Collegiate. The program includes a business session, brief talks by school administrators, and a Q and A period with lunch served. The event aims to strengthen ties between the schools and community with broad participation encouraged.
