Easter Seals Campaign Closed By Ross Burn Lions Club

The Easter Seals drive sponsored by the Ross burn Lions Club raised 178.50 in 1966. The Lions Club committee thanks all contributors and participants. Rossburn Women’s Institute Meeting Summary

Rossburn Women’s Institute met in the annex on Tuesday May 3 at 3 pm. Creed opened the gathering with thanks to Mrs. Moan and Mrs. Lindsay for leadership in the presidents and secretary-treasurer absence. Mr Huston spoke on the Centennial meeting at Birtle and Rossburn plans, followed by Mrs MacPhail of Vista on the Russell board meeting. District convention is set for Roblin on May 18 with Mrs Cormack as delegate and Mrs Wilson Stitt as board member. Jackpot won by Mrs Moan donated by Mrs Lindsay. Mizpah benediction closed the meeting with hostesses Mrs Wilson Stitt and Mrs McIntosh. An unkind word is like a killing frost.

Ukrainian Greek Orthodox Service at Rossburn May 8

The Ukrainian Greek Orthodox Church will hold a service at Rossburn this Sunday May 8 at 10 00 am. A dinner will follow after the service at the Ukrainian National Home.

Minor Baseball Opens May Nineteenth Across Region

The Mid Western Minor baseball league met in Strathclair on May 1 despite snow and playoff chatter. Over a dozen towns from the Saskatchewan border to Rivers Saskatchewan area entered bids for Bantam B and A Midget Pee Wee and Juvenile classes with May 8 deadline to secretary M Dunn Strathclair. League play begins May 19 with preliminary games and full schedule due by then. Officers elected include Wally Henderson Inglis president and Milt Dunn Strathclair secretary treasurer with Harris Huston Rossburn statistician.

Parents Night Highlights Cubs and Scouts at Rossburn event

Tuesday evening at the Rossburn Collegiate Auditorium parents watched Cubs and Scouts demonstrate activities from the year. Two Scouts Larry Huston and Dwight Aylwin received the Religion and Life Badge from Rev. Gordon Fulford of the United Church. Group Committee chair Mrs H Komhyr led planning with help from mothers of the Cubs and Scouts who organized a lunch to close the evening.

Rossburn Hospital Auxiliary April Meeting Report

The April meeting at Ann Slon’s home had twenty two members. The group adopted minutes, reviewed finances, and read a Lions Carnival thank you note. Regional meeting will be in Virden on May 19 with registration 1:30 to 2:00 p.m. Masquerade Dance report given, lunch list distributed, Mother's Day Smorgasbord notes shared, and a portable suction machine purchase advertisement discussed.

Pelly Trail to Adopt Single Board Education in Manitoba

A mid western Manitoba division, Pelly Trail, encompassing Russell Binscarth Rossburn and Oakburn, backs one board to run elementary and secondary schools. Local associations plan public meetings with the Manitoba Teachers Society and Department of Education as a referendum may be held for twenty percent petition or ministerial decision. If approved, divisions gain ten percent provincial grants with funds from a Smorgasbord. Public meeting at Rossburn Consolidated School on May 9 features George Strang.

Cross Canada Road Rally Hits Soft Saskatoon Route

The 4000 mile rally continued through a Saskatoon Winnipeg leg on Road No 577 Marco road where conditions were soft and muddy after heavy rain. Only 37 of 60 starters remained by Tuesday evening after Vancouver to Winnipeg segment.

Winners Celebrate at Wednesday Evening Bingo

A large crowd attended the regular Wednesday bingo session. Winners included Miss Joan Glushka four dollars, Mrs Mike Verbowski fifteen dollars, George Herrmann four dollars, Mrs John Hullick four dollars, Mrs Alex Sawchuk four dollars, John Obedniak fifteen dollars, and several others with tied prizes at twenty five dollars.

Glushka Couple Mark 60th Wedding Anniversary

Mr and Mrs Michael Glushka celebrate sixty years of marriage on Friday May 6 1966. They wed May 6 1906 at the old Roman Catholic church near Oakburn which burned in 1928. Mrs Glushka remains in St Boniface Hospital after gallstone surgery. well wishes flow for a speedy recovery.
