Matt Sawchuk and Jim Armstrong captured top honors at the Hospital Aid Bonspiel held at the Rossburn Curling Rink. Sawchuk defeated T. H. Alexander in the main event final. Armstrong beat B. Rogers in the secondary final. Third place went to A. J. Saley and fourth to Alex Cleland in the main, with D. K. Whyte and B. Silewich earning third and fourth in the secondary.

Week End Storm Delays Mail and Bus Travel Across Region
A weekend snowstorm with strong winds blocked all roads, cancelling schedules. Mail due Monday arrived after 24 hours delayed by plows. Greyhound progress halted at Oakburn then Shoal Lake, with Birtle end of line as snow plows worked overnight. Bus resumed to Russell and Rossburn by Tuesday night. Two passengers bound for Miss Dolly Miller and brother Gervin rode the storm halted bus. Ten Rossburn passengers rode Tuesday afternoon.

Mrs George Fardell Laid To Rest
Christina Taylor later Mrs George Fardell of Rossburn Manitoba and East Kildonan died Saturday at her daughter’s Red Deer Alberta home. She came to Canada from Sterlingshire Scotland in 1906 with her husband. Survived by four daughters, twelve grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. husband died 1951. Burial in Red Deer family plot.

Manitoba's oil output for January reached 43 091 barrels, raising total January production to 160 056 barrels from 118 965 at year start. Six ladies rinks competed in the two event Ladies Curling Club Bonspiel in Rossburn. Mrs. R Carson skipped her rink to win the main event while Mrs. S Veitch claimed top honors in the secondary event. D Cleland and Alva Williamson placed second and third in the main event, with Williamson and J G Stitt taking second and third in the secondary. Funeral service for Matthew R Hamilton was held March 21 1953 at 1 30 p m from Rossburn United Church with Pastor H Alston and Pastor Barclay officiating. Interment followed in Rossburn Cemetery. Hamilton born January 25 1875 Listowel Ontario moved to Manitoba at age seven. He married Clara Farrar May 14 1897 and farmed near Rossburn becoming a breeder of horses and a sport enthusiast. He leaves two daughters and a sister and brother with several out of town relatives in attendance.

About twenty five friends gathered March 15 at Mrs. A. Gibson’s home to honor Mrs. Peter Hyska before she moves to Churchill with her husband. She received a corsage coins and silver items. gifts included a cake server and purse. The group sang For She’s a Jolly Good Fellow and shared lunch. hostess duties were by Mrs. A. Gibson with assistance from Mrs. M. Popowich and Mrs. J. C. Rutherford.
