Funeral services for Dr. George Percy Armstrong were held in Rossburn on March 26 1953 with a family service at 1 30 p m and a church service at 2 p m Pastor H Alston officiated and pallbearers included W H Taylor W Mitchell Alex Cleland M 46 Crookshanks Eugene Cadwell and Charlie Brown He was 64 born on the Rossburn area farm son of Mrs J Armstrong and the late James Armstrong He studied at Perth and Ontario Veterinary College Toronto graduating in 1918 He practiced in Hamilton then Rossburn for 25 years moved to Winnipeg and Moose Jaw working as a Health of Animals Inspector for Agriculture He retired in December 1950 due to poor health Surviving relatives include his mother two brothers James and Walter and two sisters Ruby Armstrong and Mrs W Snider Predeceased by his father 1925 and sisters Elizabeth Cowan 1913 Isabel Armstrong 1938.

Manitoba Pool Elevator crew led by foreman A H Nilson has arrived in Rossburn to prepare the site for a new elevator addition. The 120000 bushel capacity annex will rise over 100 feet, replacing a fire damaged 70 foot structure. Materials include 400000 ft of lumber and 1600 cement bags. foundation work soon begins.

Maryniuk Pioneer Laid To Rest At Rossburn
The funeral for Mike Maryniuk was held Thursday March 26 1953 at the Rossburn Ukrainian Catholic Church with Rev Olynek officiating. Interment followed in the Ukrainian Catholic cemetery north of Rossburn. Pallbearers were Frank Hallas John Klym and the four Maryniuk sons Pete Nick Mervin and Stan. Born in Vikno Ukraine in 1881 he settled near Rossburn in 1899 with his mother and farmed eleven miles northeast. He married Teresa Gumieny in 1903 and retired to Rossburn in 1948. He planned to celebrate his 50th wedding anniversary on June 26. Survived by wife Teresa four sons Pete Nick Stan Mervin four daughters Mary Klym Anne Chapman Nellie Hallas and Elsie Marynick eighteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Out of town relatives from Ontario and Manitoba attended.

Rural Council Approves Tractor and Bulldozer Purchase

Village Council Delays Fire Equipment Decision Until Budget
Rossturn village council met March 24 1953 with all members present. A license fee for feed barns was set at 12 dollars yearly for facilities housing at least six horses open 24 hours a day. A grant to the Children's Aid Society and one building permit were approved. The council postponed the fire equipment decision until levy figures for 1955 are set.

Obituary: Mrs. Fred Danyleyko Dies After Illness in Rossburn
Mrs. Fred Danyleyko, 51, died at her Rossburn home on March 28 after a long illness. Funeral services were held March 31 with rites at her residence and St. John’s United Church Pete’s Lake. Survived by her husband and four sons Alexander Andrew Leonard, and several siblings. Pallbearers included her sons and relatives from Shortdale Angusville Brandon and Ontario.

Red Cross Bonspiel crowns Duff Whyte rink at Rossburn
Thirteen rinks competed in heavy ice conditions as mild weather left a inch of water on the surface. Duff Whyte led his team to victory in the Grand Challenge over Bill Silewich with B Carson and Wes Williamson placing third and fourth. Steve Pokropany defeated G Taylor in the Last Hope Event with Bert Mitchell and Maurice Chomica taking third and fourth.
