Whelan to open the winter fair
The Royal Manitoba Winter Fair runs March 28 to April 2 in the Keystone Complex. Federal agriculture minister Eugene Whelan opens the event with Jodi Rutledge and Governor General Edward Schreyer visiting. Highlights include the bull show and sale, seed show with six world champion producers, light and heavy horse shows, Bank of Montreal Grand Prix, new Royal Oak Cup, barrel racing, casino, 300 commercial exhibits, and various animals fairs.

The R M of Rossburn held its March 14 1983 meeting approving a portable office purchase from Atco Structures totaling 7922 66 including delivery and tax. They acknowledged 1983 levy 8782 20 and 6 increase, approved insurance premium 2947, and granted grants for internships and N E E D program. A tax sale date was set for June 20 1983 and committee reports were approved.

St Lazare Outlaws Clinch NCHL Title With Sweep
The St Lazare Outlaws completed a two game sweep of the Shoal Lake Eagles in Foxwarren to win the North Central Hockey League championship. They defeated the Eagles 13-3 and 11-4. The Rossburn Hornets have protested the series alleging an ineligible player. Full details on page 15.
